The Directors of The Medicine Horse Project acknowledge that animals are sentient beings with the power to heal the hearts of those who make a personal connection with them. We believe that animals should be admired, respected, and when needed, rescued. Our mission is the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of horses who have suffered neglect and abuse or are in jeopardy of being sent to slaughter.
Our vision is to END THE UNNECESSARY SUFFERING OF BOTH HORSES AN HUMANS. Because we know Horses Are Good Medicine, we open our gates to people seeking hope, healing and resiliency through our Resiliency Through Horsemanship programs.
The rehabilitation of the rescued horse will involve and engage volunteers and program guests who come to The Project’s Resiliency Through Horsemanship retreats. Our guests will give care to the animals in The Medicine Horse Project, and in doing so, they will prepare them for adoption into new loving homes. The return benefit to the caregivers is a healing of the mind, body, and spirit that only animals can give humans. Sanctuary will be provided for certain rescued horses who are not well suited for adoption due to age, health issues, or temperament. In these cases, lifelong care will be given, and the horses will not be made available for adoption.
In addition to the rescue of horses in need, The Medicine Horse Project will also open its arms to other species of animals under special circumstances. The Medicine Horse Project makes its home in beautiful Buena Vista Valley on the outskirts of Imlay Nevada.
Our mission is the rescue of horses suffering neglect and abuse or are risk of being sent to slaughter. The care of the horses will involve volunteers and guests who come to our healing retreats and in doing so will prepare them for adoption. As a result the caregivers receive a healing of the mind, body and spirit that only animals can provide. Sanctuary will be provided to horses who are not well suited for adoption. In these cases lifelong care will be offered for those horses.
Hay. Current monthly hay costs are approximately $1,000 per month, plus supplements, senior feed and grain. We currently do not have the funds to buy in large quantities. Having the funds to purchase direct from a grower, could be a huge savings to us.
We are in desperate need of a tractor for ranch maintenance and manure maintenance. A tractor will help make the living space for the horses cleaner, safer and improve drainage during the winter months as well as keep areas we use for programs and retreats with good footing to work horses. We currently have a 1958 tractor that doesn't run more than it does run.
Funding for programs to provide Veterans and First Responders a place for healing at no cost to them. $500 sponsors 1 veteran or first responder in Awakening the Resilient Hero. They have served us and now we want to serve them.
We need funds to expand our fencing project and build more space for the horses. And more working space for programs participants.
We have been greatly effected by bark beetles on our property. We need funds for clearing of trees and forest underbrush to make our facilities more fire safe. Currently we have downed about 50 trees. These trees need to be cut up and hauled off. There is probably about 50 more trees to take down. We need help. Volunteers experienced in this kind of work to help us be prepared before fire season is back.
