Incorporated in 2008, Life Matters, Inc. (LMI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social services agency serving low-income residents of Sacramento, California. LMI provides families with practical skills for increased quality of life and self-reliance through free, effective, and culturally competent programs and services on site at six (6) multi-family housing complexes in the Sacramento area.

LMI is a female owned and operated nonprofit organization with 6 staff and 8 volunteers. LMI provides comprehensive life skills programs and services 'on site' at six (6) Sacramento based affordable housing communities and the surrounding neighborhoods. LMI offers daily direct social service programs and activities to under-resourced residents, creating and fostering 1) strong and inclusive communities, 2) safe and healthy families and 3) valued children who realize there potential to live full and meaningful lives.

For more than ten years, LMI has operated with success in urban, mixed populations needing assistance in developing appropriate social, educational, and life skills for successful living. Life Matters, Inc. (LMI) provides social services and economic development to under-resourced populations. Our participants receive practical skills for increased quality of life and self-reliance through relevant, effective, and culturally-competent programs. LMI's serves urban, mixed populations in need of assistance to develop appropriate social, educational, and life skills for independent, successful living. Our mission is to build strong, safe, healthy and thriving communities by creating cohesive circles of belonging and inclusion. Our most important core organizational competencies include our ability to build and maintain small, interest based circles to activate a unique ambition and ability of each participant, while developing essential life skills. The factors that makes our organization succeed is our comprehensive training component, which develops leadership, and fosters creativity, decision-making and excellence while training and educating our target population. Our community building efforts were best demonstrated at a large affordable housing complex where LMI successfully engage 3,000 residents in social service programs designed to better their lives and the communities where they live. Life Matters, Inc was recognized with a stellar award by the Rental Housing Association of Sacramento.

Programs and activities are designed specifically to meet the needs of the nationalities of residents living at these multi-family apartment complexes. As such, LMI seeks and recruits individuals who are bilingual or represent specific nationalities. All programs operate from a 'Life Center' furnished by property management. LMI has assisted over 3,000 families who reside in the partner complexes and the surrounding neighborhoods. The LMI board is racially and ethnically diverse reflecting the African American and Hispanic-Latino communities we serve.

Mission

The Mission of Life Matters, Inc is to create strong, safe, healthy and thriving families/residents in affordable housing communities through academic enrichment and life skill enhancement.

Needs

In order to position LMI for success in our economic development programs, our executive director needs to attend 3 week-long training and personal development certificate sessions in Community Economic Development with Sacramento Neighbor Works. Total Cost is 7,000.00

Administrative team needs central office space available 12 to 20 hours/week; secure enough to house (2) two-drawer file cabinets and one workstation. Occasional access to large meeting room for monthly staff meetings.
