$3,000 Goal

Computers have changed the way we interact with the world. In today's technologically driven society, access to internet and computer technology opens the door to unlimited opportunities. From education, research, communication with family and friends, and everything in between, we all rely on technology more than ever before. Still, even as computers and internet access become increasingly commonplace, a "digital divide" continues to separate our communities.

Our mission at iDream - The Mac Give Project is to help close the digital divide. We are a nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation that acquires, refurbishes and enhances used Apple devices and computers and donates them to individuals in need. We also recruit and train volunteers who help provide technical and educational support for our recipients. Through our efforts we aim to elevate our communities and provide everyone with the same opportunity to succeed in our modern world.

This year we have assisted two local nonprofits with their computer needs: Empower Yolo and Arab Community Center for Integration Services.  Every quarter we offer opportunities for 2 students who would like to volunteer with our organization.  They are invaluable to our organization's efforts.

Our headline picture above was taken at a gifting session at USBank in Davis. A young Spanish speaking family received an Apple MacBook and 90 minutes of training. Our translator John, far left, assisted throughout the training session.

Mission

iDream-The Mac Give Back Project provides free computer technology/training to those who have a need. Our mission is to find those who reside on the side of the digital divide who have limited or no access to computer technology. During each gifting session we train recipients to use computers, laptops, iPhones or iPads. These training sessions may last up to two hours. We seek to empower everyone with technology for a myriad of reasons: for education, language acquisition, children's therapy, enhancing work skills. Help us close the digital divide one computer at a time.

Needs

In order for iDream to continue to serve the needs of our community, we are asking for donations to help fund our purchase of used laptops, desktop computers, iPads and the parts needed to refurbish them. After complete refurbishment, applicants will be notified they will receive the technology device these chose on their application. These items are critical in helping members of our communities by adding critical technology to their everyday lives: education, career, language acquisition and children's therapy.

In order to refurbish used equipment and provide our recipients with a fully operational system, we utilize funding to purchase computer parts that need replacement, as well as ancillary items such as charging cords, speakers, webcam, small desks, monitors, computer mice/pads.

We also welcome donations of old Apple laptops desktops, and iPads that you are willing to part with. These items will be completely wiped off any personal information and returned to their original settings prior to the donation. Our webpage has an application that you can use to describe what you would like to donate. We will do our best to arrange pickup from your location.

Equity Statement

We support anyone from Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties who lacks access to technology and fills out a short application on our website. As part of our mission we provide internship opportunities to students and others in the community every quarter. On special occasions we've sent our computers internationally. We now have computers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Liberia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Brazil, Mexico and China.
