WHO WE ARE: We are a small, Trans and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-led 501(c)3 grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to ending pathologizing of trans people and creating more equitable access to healthcare and resources through our programs, training, and direct services that prioritize the wellness and joy of Queer, Transgender, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (QTBIPOC). Our programs, training, and direct services support persons and families in Sacramento and surrounding counties. We are one of the very few non-profits that cater specifically to Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Intersex people throughout California.

WHAT WE DO: 

  1. We offer free to low-cost counseling services through our graduate student trainee counseling program. Our virtual and in-person counseling services focus on healing-centered, culturally humble, queer-informed narrative therapy. These liberation oriented modalities of therapy utilizes the power of peoples’ personal stories. Community members are encouraged, through a respectful and cooperative relationships to address the concerns in their lives that exist amidst social, political, and cultural contexts.
  2. Our trans-centered healthcare services include our hosted free to low-cost hormone clinic provided by UC Davis School of Medicine students and licensed physicians, hosted electrolysis services provided by licensed electrologists through EleQTroSpot, mobile syringe services program, PrEP prescriptions, HIV/STI healthcare, and other harm reduction services.
  3. Our peer-led community support services program provides trans and gender diverse people with community connections, primary medical and mental health care provider guidance, accompaniment to medical appointments, health education, other navigation and referral services, and referral to Legal Services of Northern California for legal name + gender marker change assistance and medical-legal advocacy in California.
  4. Our education and training services include education on gender liberation, mobilization, and trans-inclusive capacity building for organizations, groups, and agencies. The Gender Health Center is a California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) approved CE provider (#1000035), meaning our trainings meet the standards of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists' Continuing Education Provider Approval (CEPA) program and is eligible for continuing education credit towards LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, or LEP license renewal.

Mission

We are dedicated to ending the pathologization of trans people and creating more equitable access to healthcare and resources through our programs, training, and direct services that prioritize the wellness and joy of Queer, Transgender, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (QTBIPOC).

We aim to flourish in the face of systemic oppression by enhancing access to healthcare services and resources, strengthening community care connections, and providing education and healing opportunities through our programs. Our unwavering dedication lies in fostering radically hopeful, safer, and healthier futures for transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people across all intersecting identities.

Needs

For too long, our communities have been targeted for erasure and denied the dignity of safe and affirming spaces. We refuse to back down in the face of political attacks. Instead, we are building a future rooted in trans resistance, health, and collective power. We are calling on key stakeholders and community members to stand with us as we enter a new time of trans activism, health, and wellness initiatives. We will expand vital services and create sustainable pathways for our 2TGI communities.

Since securing a a new site for our services in late 2021, our vision has only grown—along with the urgent needs of our community. One of the most pressing barriers we have identified is the lack of refuge spaces, workforce development opportunities, and resettlement programs for 2-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse asylees and immigrants. Additionally, transitional-age youth remain inappropriately served, requiring targeted outreach and support.

The Gender Health Center is committed to advancing equity, dignity, and liberation for every body. We center those most impacted by systemic oppression, which includes trans people of color, disabled community members, youth, and those facing economic instability.

Equity means more than access. It means redistributing resources, reducing barriers, and building community-led, culturally responsive care. Through peer and professional-led programs and low-barrier services, we support connection, bodily autonomy, self-determination, and well-being.

We remain accountable to our community through ongoing learning, reflection, and action, working toward a future where trans people not only survive, but thrive.
