Friends of Camp Sacramento (FOCS) started as an informal group of Camp Sacramento supporters in the 1970s and was more formally organized in 1981 to support the operations of Camp Sacramento, a popular family camp facility located in the Eldorado National Forest. FOCS became a 501(c) nonprofit organization in 2011. Since its inception, Friends has contributed a significant amount of volunteer labor and raised thousands of dollars for valuable and needed physical improvements and programming supplies to Camp Sacramento. The labor and funding provided by Friends supplements the City's budget and reduces the need to raise fees charged to Camp Sacramento guests. Friends also provides camp scholarships to families, hosts a welcoming event for all camp guests, and advises (as requested) the camp management and City regarding the operations, policies, procedures and development of Camp Sacramento.
Friends of Camp Sacramento is a non-profit membership organization that strengthens families, builds community, and connects people to nature through the experience of camping. Friends meets its mission by supporting Camp Sacramento, a beloved family camp that has operated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains by the City of Sacramento for 100 years.
Friends needs funds to support scholarships ("Camperships") for families who otherwise could not afford the experience of attending Camp Sacramento. Friends partners with local non-profit organizations to select appropriate families for Camperships.
Unrestricted funds are needed to support the general operations of Friends, including camp support and administration. Camp Support pays for large and small camp improvements to maintain Camp Sacramento's quality.
Friends of Camp Sacramento solicits in-kind donations of volunteer labor, services or supplies needed to support or enhance the facility, operations, and functionality of Camp Sacramento.
