Fat Kitty City Humane Society (FKCHS) was founded 18 years ago by Cindy and her late husband, Ed Minghelli in an effort to provide refuge for the community's most unwanted animals - feral cats. Over time their vision quickly grew into what is known today as the largest no-kill rescue, adoption/cat sanctuary in Northern California. With a mission to end suffering, overpopulation and provide a safe place to call home for hundreds of unwanted cats they've saved over 12,000 feline friends to date.
What makes FKCHS so unique is their cage free housing. Nestled on 20 acres in the Sierra Foothills cats freely roam safely amongst trees and through the seasonal creek doing what cats enjoy. Cats that are not able to be rehomed have a safe space for life while their companions who are adoptable await to find their forever homes. FKCHS boasts numerous programs to assist kitties in need of veterinary care, food, temporary housing and free spay and neuter services. Pet counselors are on hand 7 days a week to assist struggling pet owners with behavior problems or their own personal issues that involve struggles with their pets. Every call for help is answered. FKCHS received requests for help from more than 30 surrounding Counties in 2023 alone. The need for help continues to grow.
