The El Dorado County Humane Society is dedicated to the protection of all animals. Its purpose is to:
- Promote and provide spay/neuter programs.
- Identify vital resources to meet the animal welfare needs of our communities.
- Educate residents in the humane treatment of and respect for all animals.
- Provide disaster relief when emergencies strike (wildfires, floods etc.)
Pet Spay/Neuter Coupons: El Dorado Humane Society provides discount Spay/Neuter coupons to pet owners in-need. Our coupons offer $30 discount per cat.
Community Cats TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return): El Dorado Humane Society offers FREE spay/neuter of feral/stray cats. The average cost for one homeless cat to be spayed/neutered, rabies vaccinated, ear-notched (to identify the cat as altered), microchipped and flea treated is $65. Last year (2023) our TNR program altered nearly 650 community cats. To further meet the needs of community cats our goal is to provide TNR services to 850 felines in 2024 Annual cost $55,250.
Community Pet Food Bank: El Dorado Humane Society's Pet Food Closet: Provides dog and cat food to assist underserved residents who are struggling to feed their pets. Inflation has hit our rural communities hard therefore cost-sharing of pet food will ensure cats and dogs don't go hungry. 'Community cats" are also recipients - with the requirement that all felines be altered (or in process of being altered) via our "no-cost" TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program. In 2024 we plan to spend $12,000 on The Pet Food Closet.
Pet Vaccines & Microchips: El Dorado Humane Society offers FREE dog & cat vaccines and microchips (permanent ID) for all El Dorado County pets. Our all-volunteer veterinary teams administer canine DAPP, feline HCP plus Rabies vaccine and Microchip ID (with free lifetime registration) at no-charge for El Dorado County pets! For many animals - it's the first time a pet has received the benefit of a DVM exam. Annual cost is $14,000.
Barn Buddies: Sleeping and Feeding shelters for at-risk animals. El Dorado Humane Society would like to continue providing sleeping shelters. Each sleep shelter costs $25 and feeding shelters are $15. Our goal for 2024 is to distribute another 150 sleep and 60 feeding shelters. Annual cost of $4,650.
Community Website Resource Guide: We would like to update our website to be a Community Resource Guide for Pets in El Dorado County. We will be able to direct pet owners to veterinary services, low-cost veterinary services, emergency vets, vaccine clinics, training and behavioral guides, community cats.
