Since 2003, El Dorado County German Shepherd Rescue (EDCGSR) has been saving the lives of abandoned, neglected, and unwanted dogs of our community. At risk of euthanasia in overcrowded public shelters, German Shepherds and shepherd mixes are brought to our facility where we house, vet, rehabilitate, and socialize them before adopting them out to loving families who understand the unique qualities of this breed.

Advocating for spay/neuter and the care that abandoned animals need, we reach out to the public through volunteer and community service programs, elementary and high school student groups, scout troops, and supervised pack walks. We offer a 24/7 community helpline, behavioral support, and financial assistance for spay/neuter services, all designed to keep more people and pets together for life.

EDCGSR is a local, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded solely through donations that go directly to feed, vet, and house the dogs that we rescue. We need your help to provide this life-saving care and to create the bright futures they deserve. Their second chance starts with you.

Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission is to save abandoned, neglected, and unwanted German Shepherds and shepherd mixes in our community by providing shelter, veterinary care, and rehabilitation.

Needs

Your donations directly support our efforts to give deserving pups a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

Indoor Kennel Expansion: A core part of our operational model is bringing every dog indoors at night, especially those recovering from surgery, with behavioral needs, or requiring individualized care. This project will allow us to double our indoor housing capacity and increase our annual intake by 30–40% while improving the safety and well-being of dogs already in our care. Your BDOG donations (matched up to $50,000!) will enable us to rescue more dogs at risk in overcrowded shelters, including seniors and dogs slated for euthanasia.

Spay/Neuter Grants: Through our community helpline, we’ve found that the leading reason local residents consider surrendering their dogs is not behavior, but inability to afford veterinary care. We offer financial assistance to low-income dog owners, particularly those with German Shepherds, to spay and neuter their pets at reduced or no cost by our veterinary partners. By preventing unwanted litters and keeping dogs healthy and stable in their homes, this program supports owner retention, reduces shelter intake, and improves animal welfare throughout our community. Your BDOG donations (matched up to $10,000!) will help us keep more people and pets together.

General Fund: This fund contributes to veterinary costs, food, essential supplies, behavioral training, agility equipment, and facility maintenance. With your help, we can provide compassionate shelter, medical care, socialization, and enrichment opportunities to every animal entrusted to us. Your donation facilitates their rehabilitation and ensures their physical and emotional well-being during their stay with us.
