Our organization reaches out to the public through volunteer programs, elementary and high school student groups, scout troops, monthly pack walks and offers a community service program, all of which results in education to our community on the need for spaying and neutering pets, importance of training your dog, and exposure to the needed care of abandoned animals.

Mission

El Dorado County German Shepherd Rescue provides refuge and makes ready for adoption, unwanted, abused, abandoned, or neglected German Shepherds, or GSD mixes. We educate the public regarding animal welfare and the importance of spaying and neutering. German Shepherds which are unwanted or unable to be adopted by local animal control services are brought to our facility where they are fully vetted, rehabilitated, socialized in order to be adopted out to their forever home.

Needs

Volunteers do all kinds of work like cleaning dog kennels, walking, bathing and brushing dogs, poop patrol, taking pictures writing dog bios, helping with social media and transporting dogs from vet appointments or the shelter.

Our rescue works to find ways that people can donate without spending any money out of pocket. One option is donating new or lightly used supplies. See website for more specifics on supplies needed.

Foster Parenting is a great way to spend time with the wonderful dogs we are placing, providing a temporary home during the adoption process. This is a great way to enjoy the company of a German Shepherd on a short-term basis, while providing these dogs with much needed love, playtime, and affection. In many cases, approved adopters will come to the foster family's home to meet the dog before adoption. Foster parents are responsible for the day-to-day care of the dog - which can be anything from simply feeding them, giving them water and love and attention, to cleaning their ears, grooming, giving them medication, helping housetrain them, and addressing any minor behavioral issues.
