$25,000 Goal

Our goal is to show students that the creative process is available to them, no matter what their skill level, background or life experience is. The focus in our classes and summer camps are on both skill development and accessing one's authentic story. We offer a safe place to experiment, problem solve, and build community. Since 1960, we have brought creativity to hundreds of thousands of people through classes and events at our building in Davis and throughout the Sacramento and Yolo County region through partnerships with First 5 Yolo, the Yolo Crisis Nursery, school districts, Parent Teacher Associations, businesses, Rise, Inc, and NAMI Yolo County.

Our vision is that all children in California will have access to an Arts education that develops essential life skills. Through artistic practice, students will develop a strong work ethic and a respect for materials, process and subject. Students will be part of a creative community that celebrates the power and reward of close examination of our world, a willingness to engage in self-discovery, flexibility in the face of challenges, and a sense of joy in achievement.

Mission

Davis Arts Center helps the Sacramento region's community to cultivate the visual artist within, fostering creativity, curiosity, resiliency, and empathy for others.

Needs

When our in-person programming came to a halt during the pandemic, Davis Arts Center began designing elementary school art curriculum for both distance learning and the classroom setting. We have successfully delivered over 10,000 art kits with art curriculum workbooks to partner nonprofits and public schools in the Sacramento and Yolo County region. In 2024 we expect to expand our reach. We are so excited for this development, but we still need help getting our footing post-pandemic. In 2023, in addition to our elementary school art curriculum, we were able to offer summer camps, expand our youth classes, and start up adult classes. We are in an exciting stage of growth and the challenges of staffing, building maintenance, and safely bringing quality art education to our students can be overcome with your support.
