Cool Davis is collaboration of community members, city leaders, organizations, artists, and businesses who strive to live sustainably. We work closely with the City, the County and other partners to set goals and act together as a community including implementing our local Climate Action and Adaptation Plans.  Davis' current civic goal is to reach community level carbon neutrality by 2040 while the County of Yolo envisions a faster transition by 2030.

Cool Davis works primarily with households. Since its founding, Cool Davis has engaged thousands of households in active greenhouse gas reductions through our rooftop solar, home energy efficiency, electric vehicle, and Cool Solutions campaigns. We have partnered with members of our 80-member strong Coalition as well as local businesses to host popular public events, including talks, workshops, ride and drives, showcases, festivals, film screenings, panels, and so many more.

We are currently renewing our mission as well as our engagement programs to create enduring community resilience through equitable and inclusive strategies that lower greenhouse gas emissions and help our region adapt to a changing climate.  We are dedicated to better understanding and meeting the needs of the whole community, to contribute to a strong and resilient neighborhoods, and to inspire everyone to act!

In addition to our programs helping transform households and neighborhoods, members of our Coalition engage in activism and advocacy, contributing to the successful defeat of expanded oil train facilities in Benecia and San Luis Obispo from 2014 to 2016.  They support a successful and ongoing local Youth Climate Strike sparked by international youth activists in 2019. With the help of hundreds of volunteers at all levels, we led the effort to be named the Coolest City in California in 2013 by Cool California and accepted a City of Davis Environmental Recognition Award in 2020 during our anniversary year.

We must all act for the people in our community and around the world who do not have the voice or resources to act, but share an even greater portion of the risk. Together we can transform our lifestyles and bring our carbon footprint down to earth for the future of our children, our community, and our planet. Wellness is at the center of happiness and health! We help each other by sharing our successes with confidence, our challenges with humor, and our solutions with expertise! There's still time for change, but we have to all get busy now!

Cool Davis envisions a climate resilient region where everyone has equitable access to resources for sustainable, healthy lives.

$100,000 to support a portion of the expenses for the staff and resources of our Cool Solutions Campaigns. These key staff recruit and direct volunteer champions doing outreach to households in our Household Engagement, Clean Energy Homes and Ride Cool Campaigns.

$25,000 to fund discounts, incentives, and prizes to demonstrate and stimulate key household actions.

Key leadership volunteers to assist with committee and board leadership are needed to reach the next level of our goals. In particular Cool Davis is looking for volunteers who come from and are involved with varying parts of our community, who have skills in public speaking, an interest in GHG reduction activities, a willingness to help seek funding sources, and a passion for action to mitigate Climate Change.

People who have a passion for helping other people in our community start working on their next step in living sustainably. It can take a household ten years to make all the changes that they need and would like to make. Having a friendly supportive voice to trouble shoot ideas, suggest solutions and encourage each other along the way is what Cool Davis is all about.

Equity Statement

The statement below is an excerpt from the Cool Davis Statement of Commitment June 2020.

"Cool Davis pledges to listen, engage, and act as follows:

Listen to voices in our community impacted by injustice, to learn more meaningfully about different experiences, to become a better ally, and to use our platform to elevate those individuals and groups to become part of building strong networks for change;

Reform our recruiting practices (board, staff, volunteers), outreach programs, and services and approaches to community transformation to ensure that they are inclusive and truly address the needs of all the households in our community;

Work to protect and restore the environment and commit to building more just systems and programs that restore and enhance the right of all people to a clean, safe, and thriving planet; and, toward that end,

Specifically invite and empower voices from the black community and other communities of color to lead webinars and convenings, and post, edit, and curate content on our media channels."
