Viewpoint has been serving the photographic arts community for over 30 years.  It is the only photographic art center and gallery in the region which services both the artist and the general public with a wide range of educational opportunities, monthly exhibits in two galleries, workshops, field trips, lectures, and so much more.  Additionally, Viewpoint the proud presenter of Photography Month Sacramento, an annual event which creates new opportunities for artists to present their work and for collaboration with other arts organizations in a month-long celebration of photography.  The event has grown in both scope and reach over the past five years.

Since 1991, Viewpoint has presented a continuous schedule of photography exhibitions and events.  The range of styles and techniques displayed has spanned the photographic spectrum from analog to digital technology: traditional silver, black-and-white and color processes, alternative approaches, such as pinhole, Polaroid manipulation, and platinum prints, disposable cameras, and photographs taken with cell phones.  Viewpoint presents the works of well-known photographers, and also provides a meaningful forum for the many emerging photographers from the Sacramento region.  This is an invaluable service which is still quite rare in the visual arts field.  Meaningful displays of photographic art help move the art form forward through appreciation and understanding.

Mission

Photography communicates ideas and emotions beyond that which can be said with words. Viewpoint facilitates this vital communication through exhibits, education, and community connection.

Needs

EDUCATION PROGRAM SUPPORT:

Viewpoint's Educational Program has grown significantly over the past several years thanks to new connections at the college and high school level. To keep the program moving forward, additional funding is needed to help with administrative follow-up, planning and development and general outreach.

PHOTOGRAPHY MONTH SACRAMENTO:

Viewpoint sponsors and presents our region's only photographic event, Photography Month Sacramento--offered annually throughout the month of April. Events include the presentation of well-known guest photographers from around the world, numerous exhibits in collaboration with various arts organizations and museums, special lectures, receptions, lectures on timely topics and much more. To help develop future Photography Month events, Viewpoint seeks a business partner to assist in presenting and funding this annual event which has gaining solid participations and attendance over the past five years.

VOLUNTEERS:

Most of Viewpoint's programs are supported by volunteers. They keep the organization running and are deeply appreciated. Viewpoint is always in search of new volunteers with special skills, time, and resources to help support its many programs. The website has a volunteer page which includes details on the many options.

IN-KIND SERVICES:

To help make ends meet, Viewpoint seeks in-kind services to assist in expanding existing programming and to support marketing, printing needs and community outreach activities.

EXHIBITS:

Special exhibits and collaborative exhibit support is something Viewpoint would like to explore more. Examples of this might include touring exhibits that are being offered for free to nonprofits, historical or educational exhibits, and collaborations with other visual artists that enhance and support photographic displays. Viewpoint currently has an extensive exhibit up at the Kiwanis Family House in Sacramento which presents an uplifting array of images for the families to enjoy during their stay.
