Ukrainian American House is an organization committed to serving the Ukrainian-American community, particularly through our refugee support programs and community education in the Sacramento area. We believe that with your support, we can make a significant impact on the lives of Ukrainian refugees.

We are a Sacramento based non-profit organization founded in 2018 by Americans of Ukrainian origin. At the start of Russia's large-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, we focused our mission towards providing humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees in California. Sacramento county is home to one of the largest Slavic populations in the U.S., with estimates ranging from 100,000 and even as high as 300,000. According to the Public Policy Institute of California, Sacramento is now known to have the second highest concentration of Ukrainian immigrants in the country (after New York). And since the start of the war in 2022, it is estimated that more than 20,000 refugees have resettled in Sacramento. We are dedicated to providing essential support and resources to those Ukrainian refugees who have been displaced due to the ongoing crisis.

Giving Activity

Mission

We are working diligently to serve the Ukrainian-American community. Our mission is to provide an effective platform for Ukrainian-American cooperation in the humanitarian, economic, cultural, educational, social, and political spheres.

Needs

Recognizing the emotional toll of displacement, we have implemented a culturally and linguistically relevant mental health support program for Ukrainian refugees that have relocated to Sacramento and Napa Counties. Access to a support network is crucial for Ukrainians who were affected by war. Traumatic events induced by war (which include experiencing or seeing violence, losing a loved one, separation of families, loss of belonging) increase the risk of mental conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

Our staff, all of whom are native Ukrainians or have experienced similar struggles as refugees, possess a deep empathy and cultural competence that enables them to establish a safe space where refugees feel comfortable opening up and seeking support. This connection is invaluable in starting the process of addressing emotional distress, mental health and trauma-related challenges faced by the Ukrainian refugee population. Through our program, we offer one-on-one peer counseling, group support sessions, educational materials about mental health, and referrals to licensed counselors that can provide counseling in Ukrainian and Russian.

As we aim to scale our program, we appreciate you considering a potential sponsorship for our program. Your support will make a significant difference in the lives of the Ukrainian refugee population in Sacramento County.

Equity Statement

At Ukrainian American House, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of their background, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, are valued and respected. We recognize the importance of equity in our organization and strive to uphold principles of fairness and justice in all aspects of our work.

As a nonprofit serving the Ukrainian and Slavic refugee community in Sacramento, we acknowledge the unique challenges and barriers faced by individuals who have been displaced from their homes. We are dedicated to addressing these disparities by providing culturally sensitive services and support that empower our community members to thrive.

We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within our organization and ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. Through continuous learning and engagement, we seek to dismantle systemic barriers and create opportunities for equitable participation and representation.

Ukrainian American House stands firm in our commitment to equity, and we pledge to actively work towards creating a more just and inclusive society for all.
