Swimclusion is an adaptive swimming program created and operated by the El Dorado Hills Swim Team, a nonprofit organization founded in 1965. Intended for kids who are able to swim and are water-safe, Swimclusion will provide specially trained, compassionate swim team coaching to neurodiverse kids and others with special needs.
Swimclusion is not swim lessons – it's a recreational swim team tailored to kids who require specialized support to participate. We anticipate the team will include swimmers with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing challenges, ADHD, and other neurological/developmental needs. There are currently no organized swim teams in the Sacramento area serving these kids.
The size of the program will depend on demand and funding. However, based on community feedback, we anticipate demand to exceed capacity. Initially, we plan to offer single-session "clinics" beginning this Fall to get our feet wet (so to speak), followed by additional clinics in the Winter/Spring, and – finally – the summer recreational team program beginning in April 2025. A key aspect of the program is that these swimmer-athletes will be part of the El Dorado Hills Tasmanian Devils (Taz) swim team, not separate from it – that's why call it “Swimclusion.”
