$10,000 Goal

The Sunshine Family Bookmobile strives to provide equal access to books and resources for young readers in North Highlands.  This allows us to not only develop great readers and life long learners but also provides an opportunity for building social and responsible individuals.  Our mobile library seeks to meet the individual interests of our participants, which leads to increased reading skills, improved school performance and ultimately better success in life.  We know that most students who are reading at grade level by the end of the third grade will graduate from high school.  Our bookmobile is clearly contributing to this very positive outcome while building a love of books! We make stops throughout North Highlands, where resources are scarce and there is not a library within walking distance for families.  Immigrants make up a large number of bookmobile participants.  Providing literacy services to newly arrived families, mostly from Afghanistan and Mexico is a goal of our program.  Through reading incentives, rewards, and more, the Sunshine Family Bookmobile creates an environment of learning, comradery and fun!

Sunshine Family Outreach Center is committed to providing life enriching services to North Highlands, California families through education, creative arts activities and wellness.

Needs

We operate a mobile library, The Sunshine Family Bookmobile, in North Highlands. We make stops at apartment complexes and parks, making it possible for children to check out books! We need financial support to keep our bus operating. Funds will be used for maintenance, gas, storage, insurance and registration. We also need books so we continue to meet the reading needs of our bookmobile visitors.

Equity Statement
