Every Child Deserves a Champion

The Satori Foundation was born from a simple yet powerful belief: when we invest in our youth, we transform entire communities. Founded in 2022 by martial arts leader Dave Kovar, our organization emerged from decades of witnessing firsthand how martial arts training builds more than physical strength—it builds character, confidence, and resilience.

What started as the "Done With Bullying" movement, reaching over 1,100 martial arts schools globally, has evolved into something deeper. We recognized that bullying is often a symptom of larger challenges facing today's youth: lack of mentorship, unstable home environments, and limited opportunities to develop leadership skills.

Today, the Satori Foundation focuses on three core pillars: Leadership development, Mentorship programs, and Self-defense training. We partner with schools, community organizations, and martial arts academies to reach at-risk youth who need us most—kids from single-parent homes, those struggling academically, and young people who simply need someone to believe in them.

Our name "Satori" represents a moment of sudden enlightenment—that breakthrough when a young person realizes their own potential. Every day, we work to create those moments.

Needs

Need 1: Martial Arts Scholarship Fund

Goal: $5,000 to sponsor full-year scholarships.

Description:

Many local families value the discipline, confidence, and mentorship that martial arts provides, but they face significant financial barriers to entry. We need $5,000 to sponsor full-year scholarships for at-risk youth in the Sacramento region. This funding directly removes the "pay-to-play" obstacle by covering 100% of tuition and the cost of the student's first uniform (gi). By meeting this need, we ensure that life-transforming training is accessible to every child, regardless of their family’s socioeconomic status.

Equity Statement

At the Satori Foundation, we believe that the life-changing benefits of martial arts—discipline, confidence, and mentorship—should not be a privilege reserved for only those who can afford it. We recognize that systemic barriers and a lack of local resources often prevent at-risk youth in our community from accessing high-quality development programs.

We are committed to equity by actively removing these obstacles through scholarships and bringing our training directly into underserved neighborhoods. Our goal is to ensure that every young person, regardless of their socioeconomic status, has an equal opportunity to find their 'Satori' and transform their life trajectory.
