Sacramento Youth Center

Reviewed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation

Sacramento Youth Center was founded in 2019 in North Sacramento on Del Paso Blvd. by local residents Raquel & Adam Shipp. The goal was to provide a high-quality space for youth to safely access in the community and to integrate SEL / youth workforce development programs. By 2020, SYC was thriving and had served 160 individuals from underserved neighborhoods and backgrounds, such as those with refugee status, in Sacramento. In early 2021, Sacramento Youth Center was asked to expand to Valley-Hi in order to provide the same high-quality level of youth space and programming to the youth in South Sacramento.

SYC thrives off collaborations with other CBOs, schools, and leaders. It is because of those relationships and passion the to develop youth in Sacramento into the best version of themselves that SYC is able to reach and serve the youth of Sacramento so well.

Mission

The purpose of the Sacramento Youth Center (SYC) is to provide youth with tools and life changing experiences to overcome their personal and socio-economic obstacles. SYC accomplishes this by providing high quality, relationship based, and empowerment driven youth development services to under-served youth in Sacramento. We aim to develop at-risk, immigrant, and refugee youth, into outstanding individuals and contributing citizens through the holistic, personal, and caring approach to youth development that the SYC employs.
