$10,000 Goal

Our goal at Sacramento Kindness Campaign is to join with our community partners in contributing to a safety-net that does not allow for any need to slip through the cracks, no matter how great or small. In our experience, it's often a small, insignificant-seeming barrier that is the one thing standing between a family and the pathway to sustainability: a $35 application fee to get the ID required to file taxes and get a stimulus check, which can be used for a deposit; a $55 apartment application fee; $200 to fill a shortfall in a housing deposit; a variety of small DMV fees and fines to get/keep the family car legal for employment purposes. This is where SKC can help.

We can provide up to six nights of safe shelter in a hotel. Without the pressing stress, anxiety, and fear of having to figure out where they will sleep, and what they will eat for the next week, they are ready and able to think about next steps. One of SKC's compassionate case-workers meets with the family to assess what other needs may exist, identify the family's unique Individualized Road Map to sustainability, and works to connect them to the appropriate county agencies and community organizations, scaffolding them in layers of support as they seek to become self-sufficient and sustainable. SKC can then work to fill in any remaining gaps. We have been incredibly successful with this model, using our compassionate listening protocol to both identify the pathways (in every case so far), and help the family into permanent housing (in 96% of cases).

Beginning in 2016, through a network of wonderful volunteers and in partnership with a wide range of connections we have built over the years, we have provided transportation, interpretation, clothing, job opportunities, literacy training, job seeking, skill-building, furniture, meals, friendship, safety from harm, guidance, life skills training, mentoring, maternity care, child care, family connections and community. It has truly been our privilege to serve this community.

In 2024, with the support of our patrons, donors, grantors, volunteers, and partners, we seek to continue to serve the greatest needs of the most vulnerable members of the Greater Sacramento area, with compassion, and gratitude. Thank you!

SACRAMENTO KINDNESS CAMPAIGN’S STATEMENT ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

The Sacramento Kindness Campaign celebrates the rich diversity within our community, thoughtfully considers inclusion when developing programs and policies, and works to fill gaps in services related to food, safety and shelter in an effort to provide equitable solutions for each family we serve.

CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY

- SKC takes pride in being an organization with diverse members, including leaders formerly affected by poverty and homelessness, members of the LGBTQ community, and persons with disabilities.

- We actively engage with the families we serve who come from various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We listen to their feedback and implement ideas and strategies to improve the ways we are able to serve them.

INCLUSIVE PROGRAMS & POLICIES

- The programs at SKC are developed to provide access to the human right to food, safety and shelter.

- SKC welcomes and actively seeks volunteers, leaders, and community partners who represent the community we serve and can provide diverse perspectives.

- Our organization is committed to developing anti-racism policies and spreading awareness of unconscious bias when serving families who may appear different from our own.

EQUITABLE SOLUTIONS

- SKC recognizes the systemic injustices that create barriers to success for our most vulnerable community members, especially families with children. Each family has a unique set of circumstances. We specialize in helping families remove those barriers to forge a path towards having sustainable food, safety and shelter.
