Support the Art of Dance. Support Sac Civic Ballet.

For nearly three decades, Sac Civic Ballet—originally founded as Crockett-Deane Ballet—has been a cornerstone of Sacramento’s dance community. Established in 1996 by legendary ballet teacher Barbara Crockett and her daughter and son-in-law, Allyson Deane and Don Schwennesen (former San Francisco Ballet dancers), our mission has always been rooted in excellence, accessibility, and the joy of performance.

Through the Deane Dance Center, we provide high-quality ballet training for dancers of all ages—from tiny beginners at age 3 to dedicated adults. Our curriculum blends the best of Cecchetti and Vaganova techniques, crafted by Crockett and Deane to build strong, expressive, and versatile dancers.

As the founding school of the Sacramento Ballet and a longtime member of Regional Dance America/Pacific (RDA/P), our program has earned national recognition for both our training and original choreography. Each year, our dancers have the opportunity to attend the RDA/P Festival—an invaluable experience that includes master classes, scholarship auditions, and college recruitment from leading institutions.

Where Passion Meets Performance

Performance is at the heart of what we do. Our dancers take the stage in two full-length ballets annually, an all-school spring showcase, and summer workshops featuring guest artists. From magical story ballets to contemporary works, every performance is a chance to grow in artistry, confidence, and community.

We also bring dance beyond the studio—performing at schools, libraries, senior centers, and local events—because we believe the arts should be shared with everyone.

Company members receive even more in-depth training, performance opportunities, and leadership roles in productions—preparing them not just for the stage, but for life.

Help Us Keep the Legacy Alive

Your support makes all of this possible. Donations directly fund:

  • Scholarships for talented young dancers

  • Costumes, sets, and theater rentals

  • Community outreach and educational performances

  • Guest artist residencies and master classes

Every contribution helps us continue Barbara Crockett’s vision and ensures that the next generation of dancers has access to high-quality training, mentorship, and the joy of performance.

From all of us at Sac Civic Ballet, thank you for believing in the power of dance—and in the dreams of the young artists we serve.

Donate today and be part of something beautiful.

Mission

Our goal is to nurture not just skilled dancers, but individuals with beautiful spirits.

We believe in cultivating discipline, focus, creativity, and a strong work ethic—balanced with encouragement, empathy, and support for one another. Every dancer is unique, and we celebrate that individuality. We strive to instill both the confidence to explore and the discipline to grow, creating an environment where learning and self-expression thrive.

Needs

📣 PR, Communications & Marketing

Help us expand our reach! Funding allows us to build awareness through professional branding, social media, and community outreach—so more families can discover the magic of dance.

🎭 Original Production Costs

From sets and costumes to choreography and theater rental, original ballets are a major investment. Your support helps bring new, high-quality productions to life every season.

🎓 $2,500 Annual Scholarship Fund

Many passionate young dancers need financial help to continue their training. Your donation ensures no child is turned away due to cost.

🏗️ Space for Set Construction & Painting

We’re in need of a dedicated space to safely build and paint our sets. Funding goes toward renting a functional, creative workspace for our production team.

👗 New Costumes

Many of our costumes are aging and in need of replacement. Your support helps outfit dancers in quality pieces that enhance storytelling and stage presence.

🏢 Studio Upkeep & Repairs

Our dancers train hard every day, and wear and tear is inevitable. Your contribution helps keep our floors, mirrors, and equipment safe, functional, and inspiring.

🌟 Community Performances

We want to bring ballet to schools, libraries, and senior centers—but these performances require funding for transportation, staffing, and production elements. Your gift helps us make the arts accessible across Sacramento.

🎟️ Free Tickets for Kids

Every child should have a chance to experience live performance. Help us provide free tickets to children and families who might not otherwise have access to the arts.

🎶 Live Music & Guest Artists

Bringing in live musicians or professional guest artists adds magic to our productions and inspires our students. Your support can make these enriching experiences possible.

Equity Statement

To foster a community where creativity is accessible to all, Sac Civic Ballet and Deane Dance are committed to inclusive policies and practices that expand access to dance for those historically underrepresented in early arts education.
