River Partners doesn’t just give new life to rivers— we build a brighter future for California. We are a leading nonprofit organization that brings life back to California’s rivers to benefit the environment and people. With only 5% of the state's riverside habitat left, healthy rivers are essential for climate, biodiversity, community, and economic resilience. Since 1998, River Partners has planted hundreds of thousands of native trees and plants across thousands of acres statewide each year and restored over 20,000 riverside acres—more than anyone in the Western United States.

River Partners takes a comprehensive, strategic approach to restoring the state’s riverways—carefully selecting and thoughtfully planning our statewide efforts to maximize ecological, community and economic returns on a watershed level. Our work advances a bold statewide vision: a resilient network of lands and waterways that sustains people, wildlife, and economies in a changing climate.

In this critical global “decade of restoration,” River Partners is doubling our pace of restoration. Along with our many dedicated partners, we have created a blueprint for addressing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, by building wildlife, agricultural, water conservation and community resilience solutions that support a thriving California for future generations. Our work results in major wins for wildlife, flood safety, climate resilience, water conservation, healthy communities, and local economies.

Giving Activity

Mission

To create wildlife habitat for the benefit of people and the environment.

Needs

River Partners aims to double its pace of restoration and acquire 30,000 acres of riverside lands by 2030 to build a resilient future for California. Philanthropic investment is the critical lever to accelerate River Partner's proven solutions. Annual operating funds bring our high-impact projects to the starting line and fill a 20% gap in public funding on every restoration project. Our goal is to raise $570,000 in individual donations by June 30, 2026.

Equity Statement

River Partners shall prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion in its work. Our policy is intended to guide the organization towards more durable and enriching outcomes for staff and partners as supported through the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
