Roseville Theatre Arts Academy was formed after a void was created by the previous tenant's closure. The co-founders, Jennifer Vaughn and Michelle Raskey, had both been a vital part of the children's theater portion of the previous theater. When the old theater closed, the parents and supporters rallied to create a new non-profit theater that focused solely on the children's workshops and fairy tales. Roseville Theatre Arts Academy was incorporated December of 2010, and opened its doors in January of 2011. Part of its early success and ability to function without debt and in the black is because of the large number of families who started with their adventure - giving them a credible base from which to start.

Since then, RTAA strives to provide a theater home to every student where they can explore musical theater, drama, and dance in a safe and positive environment. RTAA provides training in musical theater workshop, improvisation, dance, and more. We also provide experiences for the community to watch fairy tales, children's workshop shows, musical comedies and dramas with live orchestras, as well as at least one adult show per year for the community. Roseville Theatre Arts Academy also provides enrichment for local schools and children's groups through our award-winning Treehouse Players Series, which features a twist on classic tales brought to life on stage. More than 5,000 children annually are exposed to the joys of live theater through this field trip program.

Mission

Our Mission at RTAA is to build character in the students we teach, both inside and out. We see the potential in every student regardless of race, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation, age, or disability. We aim to help our students grow through music, dance, and theatre. Through teamwork and friendship, we watch as self-confidence and pride grow.

Needs

Money for Staffing and Personnel: RTAA is the local non-profit award-winning community theater for thousands of local area children. Currently, we operate with four full-time staff members. Due to Assembly Bill 5, we are also employing around 8 part-time workers and the additional payroll expenses have been a huge drain on our resources. Previously these workers received a stipend, but that is no longer legal. We fill as many roles as we can with our amazing group of dedicated volunteers.

Facility Repair and Maintenance: Our 98-year-old building is always in need of repairs and upkeep. We need to make much needed repairs to eventually replace our aging fly system ropes and pullies. ($180,000)

Tech Upgrades: Annual Tech equipment needs are $10,000 to maintain our equipment. However, the cost of needed upgrades and replacements to lights, sound and high-tech equipment is $50,000.
