PLFGCS is a trauma‑informed transitional housing and life‑skills program serving men and women rebuilding their lives after crisis, homelessness, incarceration, or instability. We provide safe housing, structure, accountability, and compassionate support so participants can stabilize, heal, and build the skills needed for long‑term independence.
We operate two gender‑specific homes designed to meet the unique needs of the individuals we serve. Our men’s home in Citrus Heights houses 18 men, offering structure, stability, and 24/7 support for those actively working to rebuild their lives. Our women’s home in Orangevale houses 11 women, providing a safe, nurturing environment where women can heal, grow, and regain confidence. Both homes are rooted in dignity, accountability, and community.
A defining feature of PLFGCS is that our homes are living practice grounds. Everything participants learn in class—communication, emotional regulation, home management, accountability, job readiness, and healthy relationship skills—is practiced daily in real time. This is where new habits are formed, old patterns are challenged, and new belief systems begin to take root. Participants don’t just learn concepts; they live them, surrounded by staff and peers who model, support, and reinforce growth. This immersive environment is what makes our program uniquely effective.
At the center of our work is our Home & Learning Hub—a single property that serves multiple essential roles. It is our men’s home, our main hub, our office, and our classroom where both men and women come for life‑skills classes, trauma‑informed workshops, coaching, and community support. This building is the heart of our operations and the foundation of our long‑term stability and growth.
A core part of our mission is preparing participants for meaningful employment. PLFGCS provides job readiness training, workforce development classes, and hands‑on skill‑building opportunities that meet individuals where they are—whether they have never held a job or are re‑entering the workforce after years away. Participants receive support with résumés, job applications, interview preparation, digital literacy, workplace communication, and professional expectations. We also partner with local employers and operate work crews that offer immediate income, on‑the‑job training, and pathways to long‑term employment.
Our approach is practical, accessible, and deeply rooted in empowerment. Participants learn how to manage daily responsibilities, strengthen emotional health, communicate effectively, and build the confidence needed to succeed in both work and life. The combination of classroom learning + real‑life practice is what allows new habits to stick and long‑term change to take hold.
To date, PLFGCS has served 788 individuals through housing, classes, and supportive services. Many arrive with little more than a desire to change their lives. With stability, structure, and community, they begin to believe in themselves again. We witness transformations every day—people finding employment, reuniting with children, securing permanent housing, and discovering their own worth and capability.
As we continue to grow, securing long‑term stability for our Home & Learning Hub is essential. Owning this property will protect the heart of our program, ensure continuity of services, and allow us to expand our impact for years to come. This building is more than a structure—it is safety, belonging, opportunity, and a pathway to independence for every person who walks through its doors.
PLFGCS remains committed to creating a safe, structured, and empowering environment where individuals can rebuild their lives with dignity. With community support, we will continue offering housing, education, workforce training, and hope to those who need it most.
