Celebrating 5 Years & A Lifetime of Curiosity

At the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC), we don’t just like questions—we thrive on them! Since opening our new state-of-the-art facility in 2021, MOSAC has sparked curiosity through hands-on exhibits, live demos, and immersive programs exploring science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).

We’ve welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests to explore global and local issues like energy, health, water, space, and more. Through school partnerships, outreach, and innovative programs we’re expanding access to STEAM education for all.

This Big Day of Giving, you can help us grow our Inspire Scholarship Fund to provide field trips to students from underserved communities. Since this program launched last year, we have been able to provide free field trips to 11 schools, 41 classes, and more than 1,000 children!

Your support today helps inspire more future scientists, engineers, and changemakers to pursue a lifetime of curiosity.

Mission

The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity's mission is to serve as a dynamic regional hub that engages and inspires people of all ages to explore the wonders, possibilities, and responsibilities of science.

Needs

The Inspire Scholarship Fund: Title 1 School Field Trips at MOSAC

Title 1 schools often encounter financial constraints that limit their ability to organize field trips, thereby restricting valuable learning experiences to schools with more resources.

As the need for scholarship support continues to rise, the 2026–27 Inspire Scholarship Fund stands at the heart of our commitment to expanding opportunity. Each contribution becomes a catalyst for possibility, opening the door to an immersive STEAM learning experience that many students would otherwise be unable to access.

These scholarships remove barriers that limit potential, allowing young learners to step into environments where curiosity is encouraged; confidence is built, and dreams begin to take shape. By investing in these experiences, you are helping students discover their strengths, envision new futures, and develop the skills that will guide them into tomorrow’s world.

Supporting this fund means championing equity, elevating the next generation of thinkers and innovators, and strengthening our community through the power of education. Currently only 19% of students from Title 1 schools in Sacramento County are meeting science benchmarks, compared to 45% overall. Yes, less than half of all students meet the benchmarks - and it's even worse for students that this scholarship will support. Together, we can ensure that every student, regardless of circumstance, has the chance to explore, imagine, and grow.

Help us in opening the door to curiosity that will last a lifetime!

Equity Statement

The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity affirm its goal to be a diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization. Our STEAM-related educational experiences benefit diverse groups of individuals with unique and varied backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. We recognize that our organization cannot create impactful life experiences at the Museum unless we are representative of, inclusive of, and equitable toward all.

To ensure we are a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization, the following commitments have been adopted as core values of the organization and progress toward these goals shall be evaluated by Museum staff leadership and the board of directors annually.

1: The Board of Directors asserts the necessity of the board to become advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusivity within our organization and in the actions the organization takes.

2: The Board of Directors asserts the necessity of the leadership team to become advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusivity within our organization and in the actions the organization takes.

3: The Board of Directors asserts the necessity of reflecting the diversity of the populations we serve on our board.

4: The Museum asserts the necessity that our staff should reflect the diversity of the population we serve.

5: The Museum acknowledges that this is a work in progress and as the Museum moves through the phases of learning and growth, new commitments may be added, and existing commitments may be modified to help steer the Museum toward its goal of being a diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.
