At the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC), we don't just like questions, we love them! For over 71 years, MOSAC (formerly Powerhouse Science Center) has piqued curiosity and sparked imagination in our guests with hands-on interactive exhibits and programing that explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
Stimulating curiosity and questioning everything is what makes the world exciting. MOSAC is proud to offer many opportunities to question, explore, experiment, and discover the possibilities of science through our interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, engineering design challenges, astronomy shows, immersive feature films, special events, public programs, and field trips.
In November of 2021, MOSAC opened our new science center with a state-of-the-art digital dome theater and seven hands-on exhibits addressing global and local issues on topics relating to energy, health, water, nature, space, and design engineering. The new MOSAC will serve 250,000 guests a year and seeks to increase access to STEAM experiences and education for all in our community.
MOSAC partners with local school districts to ensure that underserved schools have access to our field trip programs. We also partner with other non-profits agencies to ensure that we meet community need. For the 2021/2022 academic year, MOSAC developed programs to address pandemic related learning losses in math, science, and student mental health with our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. We were able to bring SEL lessons and science labs directly into classrooms through our outreach programs.
MOSAC aims to inspire the next generation to choose the STEAM fields of study so they can go on to become the scientists, technologists, and thought leaders who will meet the needs of the 21st century workforce and to help all of us face the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
This year, we are asking the community to aid us in building up our Scholarship Fund, to help underserved communities who want to visit our museum but often don't have the means.
Help us provide field trips, summer camps and program experiences to these communities, which will inspire bright young minds to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering, and become future leaders and problem solvers.
Give now and support a brighter tomorrow for these kids!
