Mother Lode Rehabilitation Enterprises, Inc. (MORE)

A nonprofit organization

MORE began in 1969, when a group of parents of children with developmental disabilities who had graduated from the school system began looking for adult services to assist with vocational training, job development, and other needs. These parents felt that persons with developmental disabilities deserved the same rights and advantages that others enjoy. MORE's programs are designed to help individuals become more independent in the community and to help reach their full potential.

The organization began serving by 13 individuals on December 9, 1973. We now serve 225 adults with disabilities in El Dorado County daily through five different programs: Supported Employment, Community Access, Creative Arts, Creative Options, and Opportunities for People (Autism Spectrum Disorders Program), and semi-independent living residential programs. MORE's wonderful Creative Arts Program also has an art gallery registered with the El Dorado Arts Council as Something MORE Artist Gallery. Our service area is currently the western slope of El Dorado County.

Mission

MORE's mission is to "empower individuals with disabilities to enhance their quality of life." MORE provides leadership and vigorously advocates for developing service systems designated to meet the full range of needs and capabilities of individuals with disabilities. We strive daily to achieve our vision of "full inclusion for people with disabilities."

Needs

MORE's vison is full inclusion for people with disabilities. In line with our vision new, federal mandates require all home and community based services to meet new regulations. To meet some of the new regulations MORE will strive to be more community based. This poses challenges for us living in a rural community with less access to public transportation. All of our clients, including those who are in wheelchairs, must have equal opportunities to access the community and is a crucial component to us achieving our full inclusion vision. We are in serious need of a new (used) wheelchair van. Your support would be huge in helping us achieve this.

Do you have an expertise that would help MORE make the dream of a renovated building a reality? Your skills can make a huge impact to our organization!

MORE has an amazing Creative Arts Programs that currently serves 115 developmentally disable adults. In June of 2014, we even opened the Something MORE Artist Gallery. Artists showcase their talents in a variety of mediums: paint, clay, wood working, paper quilling, singing, performing arts, and many more. Most exciting is our artists earn a paycheck for the sale of their artwork, our most recent fundraiser raised over $7,000 in sales! Equipment and supplies are needed to make this program possible. Monetary and in-kind donations towards supplies for this program are greatly appreciated.

MORE is always appreciative and welcoming to those with a giving heart. Do you feel you have something to offer one of our many departments? Come take a tour, we would love to show you what we are all about!
