$15,000 Goal

Founded by three non-profit sanctuaries in Northern California, LEAP (Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet) is the first-of-its-kind humane education program to reach high school students as a compassionate alternative to traditional agricultural and leadership programs.

Providing in-depth monthly curriculum, high-impact leadership training, hands-on workshops and service opportunities at sanctuaries across the country, LEAP is preparing the next generation of leaders to transform our food systems, advocate for animal welfare and human rights, tackle the challenges of food deserts and diet-related diseases, and lead the way in climate solutions, sustainability, and wildlife conservation.

LEAP empowers young people, teaching them that empathy for others is a strength, not a weakness. With humanity at a major crossroads, there’s no better time for our youth to leap forward into a more compassionate and forward-thinking society.

LEAP provides education and experiences for students in areas including:

  • Hands-on, compassionate animal care at farm sanctuaries
  • Food and agricultural system education
  • Leadership development
  • Wildlife and ocean conservation
  • Farm animal welfare and anti-speciesism
  • Human health/nutrition supported by a plant-based diet
  • The intersection of human and animal rights
  • Climate change issues and solutions
  • Social emotional learning and entrepreneurial skill development
  • Food deserts and food insecurity
  • Domestic animal care and enrichment
  • Vegan cooking and baking
  • Effective advocacy for animals and the planet
  • Animal ag’s impacts on wild animals and habitat destruction
  • Rewilding the land
  • Pollinator gardens and urban/community gardening
  • Reducing negative human impacts on climate and animals
  • How to lead community outreach, public education,

       and service projects

Mission

Our mission at LEAP is to transform the youth of today into the humane leaders of tomorrow who advocate for and work towards an equitable future for all living beings and the planet.

Needs

Our goal in the LEAP program is to be able to offer equitable and inclusive opportunities for students by making the program free for all kids and families. We also strive to keep it extremely inexpensive for each participating sanctuary, since these organizations are nonprofits themselves who are already typically understaffed and underfunded and caring for the most vulnerable animals in our communities.

We need to raise approximately $272,000 for the entire year to cover the costs of curriculum development, student supplies, staffing, insurance, food and materials stipends, etc. for the 2024-2025 school year for all of the LEAP chapters (30+) across the country.

BIG DAY OF GIVING $15K GOAL BREAKDOWN -

$5,000 - will be put toward staff member salary to begin developing the K-8 curriculum that will be piloted starting in the fall of 2024 to include vastly more students in the program.

$5000 - Will provide a $1k materials stipend to five new LEAP sanctuary chapters to cover the cost of hands-on workshop materials, monthly plant-based lunches for all students, and printing of curriculum materials.

$3500 - Will pay for general liability insurance to protect students and sanctuaries.

$1500 - Will pay for 125 LEAP students to receive free LEAP t-shirts and team building activities to promote inclusion and a culture of collaboration.

Equity Statement

At LEAP we believe in and promote inclusivity and equity for all. We oppose discrimination in any form, including speciesism. It is our belief that each individual, whether human or non-human is unique and worthy of empathy, kindness, and respect. We welcome people from every race, ethnicity, gender orientation, sexuality, religion, physical or mental disability, and background and believe that collectively, our shared experiences can create empathy and compassionate action on a large scale. We support fair wages for our employees, gratitude for our volunteers, and optimum respect and care for the animals and students impacted by our program.
