Help Build a Place of Belonging by Supporting Bridge Meadows in El Dorado County

Housing El Dorado is thrilled to be partnering with Bridge Meadows to bring the first Bridge Meadows community right here to El Dorado County! Significant groundwork has already been laid for this exciting project, proptery transfer is complete.

What we need now is your help to truly launch Bridge Meadows within our community.

Imagine a neighborhood buzzing with connection, where children who have experienced foster care find stable, loving homes, adoptive parents receive built-in support, and older adults share their wisdom while finding purpose and community. This vision is the heart of Bridge Meadows, a unique and proven intergenerational housing model with successful projects in Oregon that have transformed lives.

Housing El Dorado's primary goal:

Our goal with this project is to provide 80 units, comprising a mix of approximately 66 elder (55+) apartments and 14 townhomes for foster and reunited families. Featuring a community room and therapy spaces, this project will provide stable housing while fostering connections, and improved health & well-being. This project represents an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of youth, families, and elders, creating a stronger, more resilient community for all.

We need your support to provide the essential funding to keep the vital project going, to ensure that this unique neighborhood is welcomed.

Your support provides the essential seed funding to move this vital project forward, helping us build awareness, foster connections, and cover crucial early implementation steps. We have started down the road to bring Bridge Meadows to El Dorado County, but we need your support to finish the rest of the journey. We have secured a site suitable for this community and are currently looking to our community for funding as the land lease is negotiated. This is the vital next step to welcoming these vulnerable community members to a new home. There’s no time like the present to invest in this community-building effort!

So, What Does the Bridge Meadows Community Mean to the County?

  • Increases Affordable Housing = As of 2023, there are over 5,000 renter households, yet nearly 2,000 of those households are low-income or very low-income households that do not have access to an affordable home in El Dorado County alone. This trend in rent is only growing, where asking rents have increased by 22% from 2019 to 2024.
  • Averts Seniors from Experiencing First-Time Homelessness = Seniors (age 50+) are the fastest-growing demographic of homeless individuals in California, comprising 45% of the population, because of high rent and low income. The inability to pay rent comes when the fixed income sources, such as pensions and Social Security, do not keep up with California's cost of living. In El Dorado County, these renters need to earn 2 times the minimum wage to afford the average asking rent.
  • Prevents Homelessness in the Foster Youth = Each year in California, 30% of foster youth who age out of the system without a permanent family experience homelessness or housing instability by age 21. These youth exiting foster care often lack the familial and financial support when transitioning out of foster care to independence, which this community can aid in.
