$10,000 Goal

Herd & Flock Animal Sanctuary is a vegan farm animal sanctuary founded by Katie Dwight and Meghan Dibble to provide neglected and abused farm animals with a safe place to heal and live out their lives in peace. Since opening in 2019, we have rescued and cared for over 968 animals, offering life-saving temporary and permanent homes.

Located in Vacaville, California, our sanctuary invites the community to connect with farmed animals through tours, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs. By getting to know our residents as individuals, visitors gain a deeper understanding of their intelligence, emotions, and unique personalities. Our animals serve as ambassadors who inspire compassion and encourage thoughtful conversations about food choices and the realities of modern animal agriculture.

Our organization was inspired by visits to Farm Sanctuary in Orland, CA, and began when we found a former sanctuary property that provided the infrastructure to bring our vision to life. Early on, we faced major challenges — including a wildfire evacuation that damaged part of the property — but our commitment to the animals never wavered. Today, we continue to grow through rescue work, long-term care, and an active fostering program.

We believe that increasing access to plant-based choices benefits animals, supports environmental sustainability, and promotes human health. Through compassionate education and community engagement, Herd & Flock works to build a kinder, more informed future for all beings.

Giving Activity

Mission

Herd & Flock Animal Sanctuary is committed to fostering meaningful connections between farm animals and humans, inspiring a shift toward a more compassionate, plant-based lifestyle. We rescue farm animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, offering them safety, care, and a lifelong home. By introducing our rescued animals to the community through tours, volunteer opportunities, and outreach, we inspire a greater understanding of their sentience, suffering, and need for compassion.

We educate the community about the harms caused by factory farming to animals, workers, consumers, and the planet. And we host a high school educational program known as LEAP (Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet) in which we teach teens about the humane treatment of animals and how to make conscious food choices. This year, we expanded our work to include legislative advocacy, helping inform the public about important animal welfare policies and regulations being considered in California and across the country.

Over the past six years, we have saved more than 950 animals and currently provide sanctuary to 150 residents, including cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and rabbits—as well as dogs and cats.

Together, we are creating a more compassionate future for animals and our community.

Needs

Herd & Flock Animal Sanctuary relies on community support to continue our rescue and care work. Our greatest needs include general funding for daily animal care and medical expenses, in-kind donations of supplies and materials, help with facility repairs and drainage improvements, consistent volunteers for ongoing animal care and projects, and dedicated board members to help guide and strengthen our organization’s future.

Equity Statement

Herd & Flock Animal Sanctuary is committed to creating and maintaining an equitable, inclusive, and respectful environment for all employees, volunteers, applicants, and community members. We provide equal opportunity and do not discriminate or tolerate harassment or retaliation on the basis of age, race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, reproductive health decisions, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran or military status, protected leave status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.

This commitment extends to all aspects of employment and organizational participation, including recruitment, hiring, training, compensation, advancement, and daily workplace interactions. All reports of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation are taken seriously and are addressed through prompt, thorough, and confidential review, with appropriate corrective action taken when warranted. We believe every individual deserves to work and engage in a safe, respectful environment where dignity and compassion guide our conduct.
