Overview and Purposes

The primary focus and goal of this organization is to provide programs, outreach, and support for the adaptive/disabled community. We will do this using sports for character-building, consistency, discipline, and accountability to peers.

Our principal programs will consist of the following:

Adaptive Sports and Community Education

• We will encourage social development by hosting or attending inclusive community gatherings that may be in smaller settings to learn how to interact, move, and work in any situation.

• Our members through educational outreach, adapted sports, and sports medicine, will ease the transition of coping, training, and adjusting from their previous able-bodied lifestyle.

Mobility Equipment

• By creating, providing, and maintaining a healthy inventory, this program will continue to be pathway towards independence.

• Members use loaned equipment as a gateway to fundraise their own equipment with the intention of returning all equipment.

• It is a priority for us to create and maintain consistent students, members of the workforce and socially connected members of the community. Providing the proper equipment gives the ability for our members to negotiate daily life independently.

• In special circumstances, we may need to change, adjust or modify equipment, and methods to enrich the lives of members with physical disabilities.

• Staff will mentor and provide the education for members with a mobility impairment to repair and perform routine maintenance of their equipment in order to create more independence. This is to create opportunities for disabled community members to supplement outdated equipment and technology that may not covered by health care plans or insurance, government grants, or foundation grants by loaning the required equipment to provide the means to live a consistent and healthy quality of life.

Adaptive Life Skills and Mentorships

• The disabled community has a deficiency of adapted educational resources and services. This will be an opportunity for us to help provide and improve qualities of life through instruction of individualized routines, appointment management, wound care, transportation methods, mentorship and coaching.

• We will work to encourage and teach newly disabled as well as those with congenital birth defects to recover and adapt using education, life skills, and arts that may include: social support groups, meditation/yoga services, all-inclusive individual/group music classes, veteran affairs (VA) medical/mental health counseling, culinary arts, adaptive dance/ballet, sewing, pottery, glass-blowing, photography, painting, welding, fabrication, etc. The positive experiences produced will motivate a better understanding for more wide-ranging social interactions.

Adaptive Education and Community Outreach

• We will be established and seek to build more outreach programs and educational experiences that will increase the level of self-worth and independence within the disabled community.

• We will continue to establish new relationships within the disabled community to help prepare each active member for high school graduation and into the transition to college or work.

• We will establish and pursue increased outreach in cooperation with local and national schools, hospitals, VA facilities, rehabilitation facilities, etc.

Adaptive Technical Assistance

• We will train qualified staff to readily consult organizations, companies, venues, or programs to elevate the level of inclusiveness and accessibility for all disabled members.

• We will educate various organizations to ensure that any person with a disability is given an optimal chance for success to thrive in any work, art, sport, or craft.

Giving Activity

Mission

To provide educational public outreach and inclusive programs for personal recovery, growth, independence using arts, sports, and other recreational activities with the focus on improving qualities of life within the disabled community.

Needs

Our needs for funding are solely to distribute back into the programs, its expenses such as food, fuel, adaptive equipment needs, safety gear, etc. We want the ability to fund the year to allow low-cost to free events, clinics, and tournaments throughout the year for the physically challenged community.

Equity Statement

At Helping Empower Adaptive Lives (HEAL), we believe that true empowerment requires more than just participation; it requires the relentless pursuit of equity. Equity at HEAL means recognizing that individuals with disabilities have been historically sidelined by systemic barriers and varying levels of access to resources. We are committed to dismantling these obstacles to ensure every member of our community has a fair and just opportunity to achieve personal recovery, independence, and a high quality of life.
