$5,000 Goal

At Haven we provide continuous support to pregnant people during the prenatal, birth and postpartum periods through doula care, lactation counseling, education and family assistance. At its core, Haven is focused on supporting both families and our birth workers through equitable care and compensation. Doulas provide physical, emotional, informational support and advocacy for birthing families.

We also provide training to our doulas and lactation counselors through DONA and IBLCE approved educators.

Our physical location is on the border of Oak Park and East Sacramento, and our goal is to provide resources for families throughout Sacramento with a focus on at-risk neighborhoods such as Oak Park and Meadowview.

We have already seen amazing outcomes. Haven babies are being born with less intervention and as a result are thriving.  When women feel empowered by their births this leads to long term health and child raising success.  Studies show that doula and lactation care when provided during the late prenatal period, birth and post-partum significantly reduces maternal and infant death and injury. This support is also improving infant bonding, feeding and overall health of the family.

Mission

HAVEN'S MISSION

At Haven, our mission is to support every birther and family in a way that is inclusive and equitable. In particular there is great disparity in maternal morbidity and mortality between BIPOC and white birthers in the United States and in the Sacramento community. Our goal is to provide doula care and other much needed pregnancy support to reduce death and injury to birthers.

Needs

Unrestricted funds to pay or doulas as they provide birth support to our community.

In-Kind donations of diapers, wipes, breast pumps and supplies for doulas and birthers.

Equity Statement

At Haven: A Refuge for Pregnancy and Birth. our goal is to promote and foster a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion within the communities we serve. We will, with intention, include diversity in our workforce and volunteers.

Haven is an equal opportunity organization that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age and genetic information. This approach offers a range of valuable experiences and perspective. We value continuing education in diversity, equity and inclusion for the sake of continual improvement of Haven as an organization.

Our diverse group of doulas and educators are an essential asset for developing and providing perinatal health and human services that are culturally proficient to address systemic inequities in maternal and infant health.

Diversity is defined as the range of human differences, abilities, experiences, and perspectives. Inclusion is culture that fosters diversity, equity, support, and respect within every facet of organizational services and activities and equity is the fair and just treatment, access and opportunities for all people. We strive to address systemic inequities which are long standing and built into a system that produced unequal rates of morbidity and mortality during the perinatal period even in the absence of individual biases. Examples of systemic inequities include, but are not limited to, racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, and ageism.

Haven holds Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as essential values to support our mission, vision, and values. Our success as an organization is dependent on the employees, volunteers and supporters. of Haven taking strong positive action for the culture to change and we are accountable to the communities that we serve.
