Giving Activity

Mission

To instill values in youth and prepare them to make ethical choices, take leadership roles, and reach their potential. Those values are based on character, citizenship, personal fitness, and are found in the Scout Oath and Law. We do this by partnering with chartered organizations and well-trained leaders, as we:

- Offer youth fun and adventure

- Instill in youth life values and help them develop ethical character

- Train youth in citizenship service and leadership

- Serve community and families

Needs

One Scout: Currently the 'all-in' cost of supporting one young person in a Scout unit is $220 a year. Some families are challenged by making an investment in Scouting for their son or daughter, but fortunately many 'Friends of Scouting' in our local communities choose to help us make sure we can make that investment in as many interested youths as possible.

Friends Of Scouting: Is the annual campaign where the Golden Empire Council asks for general operating support from Scouting families, businesses, and civic-minded citizens to fund our mission of providing the Scouting program to thousands of young people in northern California.

Council Endowment Giving: Gifts to the Golden Empire Council endowment fund is one of Scouting's highest priorities. It is the best way to ensure long term financial support of the outstanding Scouting programs provided by the Council. The endowment is required to be spent in a certain way or alternatively invested, with the principal to remain intact in perpetuity. This allows for the donation to have an impact over a longer period of time than if it were spent all at once. It is an investment into our future.

Capital Giving: Support our Council camping facilities and customer service centers through financial and in-kind donations. We are always in need of resources -- from materials for camp improvements to office supplies. We also greatly value gifts of professional expertise in areas like PR, design, IT, and others.

Our 250+ Scouting units include Cub Packs for ages 5 to 11, Scout Troop for ages 11 to 18, Venturing Crews for ages 14 to 21, Explorer Posts and Sea Scout Ships for ages 14 to 21, and every one of these units requires adult leaders to help plan, conduct, supervise, and lend credibility to their respective programs.

There is always room for adults willing to help with council, district, and until level committees, activities from staging council-wide evens that might include 1,000's of youth members and adult leaders to individual merit badge councilors willing to help a Scout in an area where that councilor has interest or expertise.
