The Future Foundation of Sacramento offers a comprehensive program that goes beyond a regular scholarship.

Since 2007, the Future Foundation of Sacramento has continued ushering students into and through the process of navigating college.

To complement our college scholarship awards, we provide our recipients with a robust list of services that help them persist and graduate. In addition to our customized and renewable scholarships, we empower our students with a collection of mentoring from high school to college admission and through college graduation; program activities (networking, financial literacy, college strategy, etc.); and financial aid advocacy to secure and renew financial aid grants.

First-generation college students have more than the financial burden of college. The numerous obstacles they face could derail them from achieving college success even before they begin their first day of class. Their challenges can include obligations to support their family, limited advanced academic opportunities in high school, absence of college-graduate role models, and lacking cultural awareness of what is required to access college.  Even if a student possesses the academic potential for college and is aware that funding could exist to pay for college, the many hurdles of navigating the process of applying, enrolling and accessing funds can act as obstacles that keep students from reaching and graduating college.

The Future Foundation of Sacramento recognizes both exceptional potential and disadvantaged challenges in students. We seek students who are committed to achieve, but do not have the necessary money or guidance to get to and through college.

Mission

Future Foundation of Sacramento provides volunteer mentoring and 5-year scholarship funding to local students who are first-in-family to attend college. We help students from underserved schools gain financial aid to college and become first-generation college graduates.

What We Do: Beyond scholarship awards, we ensure each student is empowered with the resources necessary to persist towards graduation. The benefits of being a Future Foundation of Sacramento scholarship award recipient includes receiving mentoring and assistance with accessing college, participating in college-prep activities and financial aid workshops, and the opportunity to receive up-to five years in college funding - value of $25,000.

Impact:

- 140 annual scholarship awards distributed since 2010.

- $800,000 of college scholarship funding awarded to local students.

- $2,900,000 in financial aid grants and other scholarships accessed by award recipients. This additional funding reflects the excellence of our scholarship awardees who earn merit scholarships that recognize their accomplishments and their personal responsibility to seek and retain grant funding.

- 5 years or less: Future Foundation of Sacramento graduates earned degrees faster than the national average of six years, and 50% of our graduates complete their baccalaureate degrees in a quick four years.
