Four Paws to Freedom

A nonprofit organization

Healing Together—One Paw, One Step at a Time.

About 4 Paws 2 Freedom

Founded in 2014, 4 Paws 2 Freedom is a nonprofit organization serving the greater Sacramento Area, dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We provide free service dog training that empowers individuals to train their own service dogs, fostering strong, healing bonds that restore confidence, emotional well-being, and independence. To date, we’ve supported over 100 handlers and currently serve around 50 active students—at no cost to those who have already given so much.

Beyond our service dog program, we’re deeply committed to community engagement. We participate in outreach events across the region and partner with local law enforcement and fire agencies to train therapy dogs that provide comfort and support—not only within their departments but out in the community as well. These specially trained dogs also assist victims of crime, offering a calming presence as they testify in court and relive traumatic experiences, helping them feel safer and more supported throughout the legal process.

Through all of our work, 4 Paws 2 Freedom promotes healing, resilience, and the life-changing power of the human-animal bond.
