Needs
The greatest benefit to FSS students is not financial, it's the one-on-one time and caring relationship forged between Student and advocate. Students are partnered with an advocate who stays with that student throughout their college career. Students and advocates meet monthly to discuss schooling, internships, jobs, as well as general goals, roadblocks and life issues. We are not a "one-size-fits-all" program. Each student has different circumstances with different needs. These may include help with course selection, applying for internships, consideration of graduate school, coaching before a job interview, or managing personal issues.
GRADUATION SPONSOR: Upon completion of our 4-year program, FSS students were more likely to graduate compared with a similar student, not enrolled in our program. Of those 87 students, 83% of them graduated with a four-year degree. The holistic support we provide totals approx. $2,500 per student, each year for a total of approx. $10,000 during their time with FSS.
LITERACY SPONSOR: Students are required to read (2) books each year, from a pre-selected list of books focused on personal growth, professional skills, and career development. We provide compensation for each book review summary in the amount of $125. There is no limit to the number of books students may review.
CAREER SPONSOR: Our students are better prepared for the modern workplace through their participation in our structured reading, consultation, networking and career skill building courses. We've partnered with industry professionals who offer life coaching services and support at approx. $750/student.
EDUCATION SPONSOR: Education Sponsors support one year of Fostering Success & Significance activities for one student at approx. $2,500. In a given year, your gift will provide a student with tuition support, one-on-one mentoring from an advocate and a birthday gift. Your donation will also provide for opportunities for a student to give back to their community, and mentor younger foster youth.
