Folsom History operates three museums in Folsom's historic district - the Folsom History Museum, The Square, and the currently under construction Chinese Heritage Museum. Folsom History highlights Folsom's unique place in California history through exhibits, digital engagement, educational programming, and hands-on learning experiences. Folsom History houses a collection that includes artifacts, photos, textiles, documents, and more that are representative of Folsom's diverse community throughout the years.
Looking toward the future, we are creating a blueprint for reinventing our entire organization as we begin the design process for the Chinese Heritage Museum.
Our new mission is to inspire an innovative future together by connecting Folsom to its inventive roots. Over the past year we have:
- worked with a custom exhibit design team, local experts and groups, and stakeholders to create a concept team for the future Chinese Heritage Museum.
- rebranded the location previously known as Pioneer Village to become a historically inspired makerspace known now as The Square.
- opened Made in Folsom, a temporary exhibit focusing on Folsom's history, people, and businesses that have made the city what it is today.
- worked closely with the American Alliance of Museums Museum Assessment Program to reevaluate our collections policy and procedures to better facilitate our growing collection.
2023 has been a year of resilience, growth, and hope for all of us. A new blueprint will allow us to reinvent our entire organization by focusing on interpreting themes of innovation in Folsom History Museum, The Square, and the Chinese Heritage Museum.
