$15,000 Goal

The Fair Oaks Rotary Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks, which has been a part of Fair Oaks for 75 years. With a membership of over 90 volunteer-oriented women and men, the results of our service projects can be found throughout Fair Oaks. Over the past several years, we have become more focused on helping those most in need of help. We are making a significant difference at Northridge Elementary School, where eighty percent of the families are receiving public assistance and ten percent are homeless. Our leadership and resources make it possible to provide food, clothing and other necessities at the school - for the most desperately poor among the families served by the school.

The need for food at the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank has increased by 450% because of the pandemic. Our club, its members and foundation have donated significant money, time and leadership capabilities to the Food Bank, helping it expand its hours of operation, obtain more food to distribute and improve its facilities. The Food Bank estimates that our efforts have provided the Food Bank with matching funds and goods from various non-Rotary sources valued at about $300,000.

Mission

The primary mission of the Fair Oaks Rotary Foundation is to assist those within the Fair Oaks community who are most in need of help.

Needs

YOUTH SERVICE PROJECTS - Amount Needed: $10,000

The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks supports a number of on-going youth service projects. Examples of projects that will need funding are the following:

Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (RYLA) - This is a week-long summer camp that is almost always described by attendees as truly life changing. Every year we select send 3 or more high school students to RYLA.

Scholarships - Every year we provide eight graduating high school seniors with financial assistance to help them start their college educations.

Northridge Elementary School - Many families at Northridge are in need of assistance. We help meet some of their needs, including supplemental food, winter clothing and educational materials.

Safe Halloween - This is an annual event for mostly younger children in Fair Oaks Village hosted by Fair Oaks Rotary. Children trick or treat in the Village, attend book readings and receive free books.

FAIR OAKS COMMUNITY PROJECTS - Amount: $5,000

In one recent eighteen-month period, we completed about thirty community service projects, several of which were unanticipated. A typical fiscal year includes a big service project with multiple funding sources and numerous smaller projects. In our largest effort to date, we helped the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank improve its facilities and meet the increased demand for food caused by COVID. It is estimated that our financial and volunteer support attracted over $300,000 in funding from other organizations.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS - Amount needed: $5,000

Our international efforts are currently focused on safe drinking water projects in developing countries. A single rainwater catchment system in a village can vastly improve the lives of 5,000 or more people at a cost to the club of about $5,000. Each project of this types literally saves many lives.
