Who we are:

We are a Sacramento-based performing arts collective dedicated to both theatre and arts incubation. Our goal is to provide unique, inclusive performing arts opportunities that create joy and community for a variety of experience levels. We also want to empower members of our community to do the same!

Empire Arts Collective was founded in 2015. Since then we have achieved so much, such as: hosting poetry workshops and Hamilton sing-a-longs; offering improv and devised theatre classes; producing brand new, self-generated plays; and a live, musically scored, DND campaign. We've created a plethora of works of art, and (arguably more importantly), we've created a community of artists and friends who support each other and each other's artistic endeavors, no matter what.

What we believe :

We believe that sharing resources and working together as an inclusive community is the best way to accomplish our goals and create joyful, life-changing art. Our values include hard work, creativity, basic kindness, aiming for greatness, and long-term community investment.

What we do:

Theatre - We are one of the only performing arts organizations in the region to consistently produce devised theatre, which is theatre created as a group and without a script. Our devised theatre program creates brand new plays for the Sacramento region, which elevates our cultural status. We also train artists to create devised theatre, which benefits our entire arts scene.

Arts Incubation - We train artists and provide resources so new projects can flourish. Over the years, we have helped artists launch their careers and we have developed new arts programs that benefit the Sacramento area.

All of our programs aim to be equally appealing to brand new and experienced artists. We keep it exciting and accessible.

Mission

Our mission: To foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for artists to create, share, and refine their work, inspiring joy and building community through innovative opportunities.

Needs

1) Expand Pay-What-You-Can & Low-Cost Access Programs:

We believe that creativity should be available to everyone, regardless of financial barriers! Your donation supports pay-what-you-can programming, sliding scale workshops, and community stipends, ensuring that artists from all backgrounds can access space, training, and opportunities to grow. Your gift will help covers participation costs for those who need financial support; keep workshops, rehearsals, and performances affordable and inclusive; provide stipends for artists dedicating time to creative projects. ($3k)

2) Replenish Seed Fund for New Artistic Projects:

Creativity needs resources! Our seed fund supports artists launching new projects by covering initial materials, space, and stipends. In 2024, we launched Artistic Community programming, which led to the Collective Brilliance series and community meetups. In 2025, we introduced the Visual Arts program, continuing our commitment to supporting a variety artists and artistic endeavors. Past seed-funded projects like Pop Choir and Windhaus Improv have grown into thriving creative communities. Your donation keeps this momentum going, ensuring the next big idea gets the support it needs to flourish! ($2k)

3) Make Our Creative Space Work for Artists:

A space is only as good as the tools inside it! This goal funds essential space upgrades to make our new home more functional, interactive, and inspiring for artists, facilitators, and creative community members. Your gift will help fund such things as a large whiteboard & brainstorming tools for planning, collaboration, and creative workshops; Modular seating & adaptable workspace setups to support performances, rehearsals, and community events; flexible storage solutions to keep the space organized and ready for multiple artistic uses. ($3k)

4) Stage and Production Equipment Upgrades:

We're looking to upgrade the space, and we need your help to transform it into a professional performance & rehearsal venue! Your gift will help rebuild our stage, upgrade lighting & sound, and improve storage & functionality. Your donation will help us build a new stage for performances, workshops, and rehearsals; upgrade lighting & sound to support all types of creative work; make the space functional & inspiring for artists at every level. Equity Statement

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) is part of our core principles. Our organization recognizes the reality that cultural biases and systemic racism impact communities of color in the Sacramento area, and beyond, and it is part of our ongoing goals to dismantle those systems through racially equitable practices.

We look for creative ways to rethink systems and policies to better serve and support communities of color whenever possible and are in an ongoing process of examining and questioning the practices that have been traditionally deemed “professional,” which have been part of the oppression of marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

As we create our events, programs, and collective projects, we continuously strive to provide an inclusive, accessible environment with a low barrier to entry for anyone interested in experiencing the beauty and joy of the performing arts.

We hope to continue and expand our focus on creating works that are open and welcoming to adults of every age, ethnicity, race, color, religious background, nationality, ability, gender identity, and sexual identity.
