$10,000 Goal

Founded in 2021 and awarded 501(c)(3) status in 2023, EGE Foundation is a Sacramento-based social enterprise advancing environmental education, leadership, and entrepreneurship for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth ages 12–24.

Through hands-on learning, outdoor access, and paid leadership opportunities, we connect youth to real-world pathways in environmental science, STEAM, and sustainability-focused careers. Our programs combine environmental education with workforce readiness so young people don’t just learn about the future—they help shape it.

In 2025, EGE Foundation engaged 150+ youth, delivered 1,000+ hours of experiential learning, and partnered with 20+ community organizations across Sacramento and beyond.

🌲85% of participants increased their environmental knowledge.

🌲70% expressed new interest in STEAM or environmental careers.

Founded by Sacramento native Sydney Mathis, EGE Foundation is rooted in a family legacy of environmental stewardship and a deep commitment to equity, access, and youth leadership. As we head into 2026–2027, we are expanding paid youth roles, launching the EGE Roots Fellowship, and growing our social enterprise model to create sustainable, long-term impact.

"EGE helped me see myself in science and leadership in a way I never had before."  — 8th Grade Youth Participant

➡️ Youth Environmental Camp serving up to 60 participants with immersive outdoor learning

➡️ After-school and community-based programs reaching youth and families through trusted partner sites

Equity Statement

We are committed to advancing equity by creating inclusive, empowering spaces where all youth—especially BIPOC communities—have access to the resources, opportunities, and support needed to thrive. We believe that equity is not just about providing equal opportunities, but also addressing systemic barriers that have historically marginalized communities. Through education, environmental stewardship, and leadership development, we strive to foster environments where diverse voices are heard, valued, and uplifted. Our programs are designed with cultural responsiveness at their core, ensuring that every young person feels seen, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
