Equity Statement
At the EUACF, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment where every Afghan child—regardless of their background, immigration status, or length of time in the United States—has the opportunity to succeed.
We recognize that Afghan families in California come from diverse experiences, including those newly resettled as refugees and those who have lived in the state for generations. Many face unique barriers to education, such as language challenges, disrupted schooling, and cultural adjustment. Our literacy program is designed to address these disparities by providing tailored educational support that meets students where they are, honors their linguistic and cultural heritage, and empowers them to thrive in their academic journeys.
Equity is at the heart of our work. We strive to:
-Ensure Accessibility: By offering free or low-cost programs in accessible community spaces, we remove financial and logistical barriers to high-quality education.
-Promote Linguistic and Cultural Inclusion: Our bilingual approach in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, and English ensures that children and families from all backgrounds feel valued and supported.
-Foster a Safe and Inclusive Learning Environment: We create spaces where Afghan children can learn without fear of discrimination, celebrating their identities and experiences.
-Engage Families as Partners: We recognize parents and caregivers as key partners in their children’s education, providing resources and workshops to support family engagement.
-Advocate for Systemic Change: Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and policymakers, we work to improve educational equity for Afghan and other immigrant communities.
We believe that equity is not just a principle—it is a practice. Our commitment to fairness, respect, and opportunity guides everything we do, ensuring that all Afghan children in California can access the education they deserve and build a brighter future.
