Disconnect to Reconnect

A nonprofit organization

We are a community of Veterans. We fought in Iraq. We fought in Afghanistan. We fought all over the Middle East. Some of us even fought in Vietnam. We have lived through the hardships of service and know the struggles that come after. We carry PTSD, we are in recovery, and we push through the lasting effects of physical injuries.

In the military, we learned to be more than just teammates. We became family. We built unbreakable bonds, trusting each other with our lives. But when service ends, that sense of belonging is harder to find. The walls we built to survive don’t come down quickly, and stepping outside our comfort zones can feel impossible.

At Disconnect to Reconnect, we understand that healing starts with connection. Dropping our barriers and putting ourselves out there is not easy, but it’s necessary. Through adventure and recreation, we make new connections and rebuild the sense of brotherhood and sisterhood we once had.

We create opportunities for Veterans to break free from isolation and rediscover strength through mountain biking, backpacking, snowboarding, skiing, camping, and so many more outdoor activities. We provide a community where Veterans support each other, challenge themselves, and experience the healing power of nature together. We remove barriers so every veteran can access these experiences. We are forging a new path to wellness through adventure, fitness, camaraderie, and shared challenges.

Mission

Disconnect to Reconnect is a Veteran focused nonprofit in Northern California. Our Mission is to help improve the Mental Wellness of Military Veterans through Outdoor Adventure, Recreation, and Fitness activities. D2R creates, promotes, and leads veteran group outdoor activities that foster a safe place to find themselves again alongside their peers. Research has shown a strong connection between time spent with peers in nature and reduced stress, anxiety, and depression. We believe veterans deserve a fun and engaging peer support system that can provide stability and recovery for those who have gone through the same struggles.
