DRF promotes implementation of a mentor-guided, student-led, peer-to-peer STEM education program that uses team competition to motivate students. These programs use technical and program guidance from FIRST and VEX Robotics.

DRF focuses on efforts in Yolo County. As its top brand, DRF supports the mission and vision of First Robotics Competition. FRC has been called the "Varsity Sport of the Mind." There are over 20,000 FRC student participants globally, and most of them will go pro in STEM. DRF currently primarily supports FRC Team 1678 Citrus Circuits based at Davis High School which has about 100 members and a dozen adult mentors. The team maintains a globally-known outreach program that fosters STEM education in 4th to 12th grades. Citrus Circuits' motto is Educate, Empower, Excel

DRF manages the funds and makes community connections to support Citrus Circuits and other robotics-based education in the region. DRF funds the Davis Youth Robotics League and Schools programs, and summer Robocamps. The DYR programs are mentored by Citrus Circuits high school students within Davis, and the Robocamps are staffed by high school students with an adult mentor supervising. DRF aims to expand both of these programs to other communities in Yolo County.

We are reaching out to you to ask for your support in furthering our team’s vision and mission: Educate, Empower, Excel. As part of our commitment to reaching beyond competition success to growing STEM opportunities in our community and beyond, we  have many community outreach efforts that we hope to expand and enhance. Many team members have arrived through these programs and are now paying it forward. These two are both especially impactful and expensive:

  • We now have 18 week-long sessions of summer RoboCamps for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. We can reach more disadvantaged families with additional camp scholarships at $300 each.
  • We have 40 Davis Youth Robotics (DYR) League teams, but these teams are generally self-financed with a cost of $900 each. This creates a barrier to participation from disadvantaged families. We can offer financial support to these families to increase participation.

To support Citrus Circuits and our outreach activities, as well as the team as a whole we suggest donating to fund these activities:

  • $20 for a team shirt for a team member
  • $50 for a night of lodging a team member at a competition
  • $300 for a RoboCamp scholarship
  • $600 to pay for a team member’s flight to Champs
  • $900 to fund a DYR team
  • $1678 to become a Champion of Educate, Empower, Excel.

Mission

We transform our communities through education; we engage people of all ages through outreach; we inspire others with our commitment to excellence. We strive to Educate, Empower, and Excel.

We pursue our vision by building a student-led, mentor-based environment that fosters innovation and teaches interpersonal and technical skills. The programs DRF supports also develops local partnerships and community outreach while striving to compete at the highest level possible.

Needs

DRF raises and manages funds for local STEM education programs. It also recruits volunteers to mentor students, and connects technology firms with program requirements

Equity Statement

Every student team member will have equitable access to inclusive, proactive, and flexible systems of support, experiences, and resources necessary to close opportunity gaps and attain academic and personal milestones.

Citrus Circuits actively pursues the goal of empowering underrepresented groups in our community to become active participants in STEM. Through fostering inclusivity and developing and supporting programs that provide opportunities to those facing distinct disadvantages, we hope to inspire individuals to consider STEM as a viable career path, contributing to a more diverse and dynamic STEM community.
