In 1966, SSVMS established a 501(c)3, the Community Service, Education and Research Fund (CSERF) to support several charitable community programs. The medical student scholarship fund annually benefits medical students who graduated from a local high school. The SPIRIT program provides free medical services to the Sacramento region's uninsured. Since its inception, physician volunteers have provided more than $13 million in free care. The Museum of Medical History preserves and exhibits artifacts representing the evolution of medicine. Since 2016, CSERF has served as the chair and executor of grant funding for the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition, thereby saving lives by preventing opioid misuse and abuse. The Honoring Wishes program normalizes, destigmatizes, and educates patients and physicians on end-of-life planning. Finally, Future of Medicine aims to strengthen the local healthcare workforce.

Big Day of Giving is coming! But you can donate NOW through May 2! Money raised during Big Day of Giving will support SSVMS's Future of Medicine Program. Sixty high school students from all over the Sacramento region will get the chance to learn about careers in healthcare through preceptorship and hands-on learning.

This program is only made possible by the donations from our partners and community. Every donation makes a difference by helping us purchase uniforms, supplies, hospitality, CPR classes, and transportation for students to attend job shadowing and workshops. Donations are tax-deductible! Help us diversify and grow the healthcare workforce in our community!

$500 - Provides transportation/supplies for one high school student to participate in the program.

$250 - Purchases materials for the sheep heart dissection lab.

$100 - Puts two students through CPR certification training, making our community safer!

Giving Activity

Mission

SSVMS’s Community Service, Education, and Research Fund provides programs and services focused on increasing access to healthcare, improving health outcomes, mental health advocacy, physician wellness, and building the future of healthcare.

Needs

SSVMS’s Community Programs are supported solely by grants and generous donations from the community. Without this support, programs dedicated to increasing access to healthcare, preventing opioid misuse, addressing workforce shortages, sharing medical history, and providing scholarships to medical students would not be possible.
