City of Refuge Sacramento

City of Refuge Sacramento, a community-based organization, exists to support people living in marginalized communities of Sacramento and to empower their ability to create a personal transformation that will lead to a healthy and thriving community. We offer services for individuals experiencing homelessness, women that have been victimized by sexual exploitation and trafficking or abuse, at-risk youth engagement programs, workforce development, community outreach and life development programs.

City of Refuge Sacramento provides Refuge and Transitional housing for women and often their children who have been exploited, abused, and are facing homelessness. Current housing programs include:

  • Phase One Refuge Housing: Our phase one program offers emergency housing for families at our women and children's shelter. Through our program we offer assistance and case management to women as they move from dependent, abusive, exploitive relationships to self sufficient lifestyles.
  • Phase Two Transitional Housing: Our phase two restorative housing program offers long term housing for families for those coming out of our phase one program, and offers them a launching pad in their journey to transformation.

  • Motel Shelter: City of Refuge is partnered with the City of Sacramento's motel voucher program, and daily walks with hundreds of families who are  living in Sacramento's motels by providing supportive services through individualized assessments and client advocacy.

City of Refuge Sacramento offers youth engagement programs including:

  • City Sports Academy in partnership with the Sacramento Panthers youth football team. Together we have the opportunity to connect with hundreds of young people and their families. We see them on the field fighting for a common purpose and establishing a unique brotherhood. Playing in this league is not just about winning and losing, but about reaching the hearts and minds of young men otherwise unseen.
  • The Nest Childcare was created to serve the families living in Refuge Housing who come with children that have lived through the same traumatic environments they experienced; The Nest aims to provide trauma-informed care to the children who are often experiencing peace and safety for the first time in their lives.

City of Refuge's dedication to community means our doors are open for our neighbors who become family and friends.

  • Our Resource Center is the heart of City of Refuge Sacramento on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Our resource center serves many functions, but our main goal is to meet the everyday needs of our community. We do this through tangible means like weekly showers, laundry services, life development, support groups, enrichment courses, prepared meals for unhoused neighbors, and being a safe place for anyone who walks through our doors.
