Equity Statement

At the Central Valley Movement Building Organizing Institute (CVMB OI), our unwavering commitment to equity is at the heart of our mission, especially as it pertains to educational justice and dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline. We understand that the communities we serve in the Central Valley are rich in diversity, encompassing a wide range of voices, experiences, and backgrounds. We believe that this diversity is not only a strength but also an essential element in our collective effort to create meaningful social change and empower our communities.

Our approach to equity extends through every facet of our work, particularly in our dedication to transforming the educational landscape. We aim to ensure that all students, especially those from marginalized and underserved backgrounds, have equitable access to high-quality education and the supportive resources they need to succeed. We stand against the systemic barriers that disproportionately push students of color, low-income students, and those with disabilities out of educational settings and into the criminal justice system.

CVMB OI is committed to dismantling these oppressive structures by advocating for policies and practices that promote restorative justice, support mental health and well-being, and nurture inclusive, safe learning environments. We strive to empower parents, youth, and community members with the knowledge and skills necessary to challenge inequities and to be active participants in reshaping their educational systems.

We recognize the critical need to address and overcome implicit biases, confront discriminatory practices, and create spaces where every voice is not only heard but also valued and acted upon. Through our work, we are dedicated to embodying the principles of educational equity and justice, continuously reflecting on our strategies, engaging in open and honest dialogues, and taking concrete steps towards a more equitable educational system.

In solidarity, we stand with our community in the vision of a future where every student has the opportunity to thrive in an educational system that is just, inclusive, and free from the pathways that lead from schools to prisons. Together, we are committed to building a Central Valley where educational equity is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for all.
