$5,000 Goal

Established in Davis’ award-winning Central Park, the gardens are maintained by a volunteer-led nonprofit organization, Central Park Gardens of Davis, in partnership with the City of Davis.  Our volunteers strive to create beautiful demonstration gardens and engaging educational programs that will motivate local gardeners to adopt more sustainable gardening practices.

Thanks to generous community donations and dedicated volunteer effort, we are proud to demonstrate climate adaptation best practices in Central Park Gardens. By featuring drip irrigation and a broad diversity of native, drought tolerant, and edible plants, our aim is to share ideas and inspiration for creating beautiful and resilient gardens across the region.  In recognition of our ongoing sustainability efforts, we were honored to receive the City of Davis Environmental Legacy Award in 2019.

Our community volunteers continue to be a tremendous example of how a diverse group of people can come together, inspired by a shared mission, to make a difference.  Together we create and maintain a beautiful public space for all to enjoy.  We exemplify the best qualities of a resilient volunteer-driven organization.

Giving Activity

Mission

To provide a welcoming place of beauty and tranquility that inspires and educates local gardeners to adopt sustainable gardening practices.

Needs

A garden is a living, dynamic entity that requires, if not demands, regular care and maintenance. We are always in need of funds for ongoing maintenance of garden infrastructure, to refresh plants, update plant labels and seasonal educational signage, to provide tools, training, and materials for our volunteers, and to support public education workshops and training programs.

A special need this year is for funding to upgrade our perimeter fence from wood to steel. Our current fence is falling apart, and we are seeking community support to invest in a beautiful, permanent, and low maintenance metal fence that will protect our special plantings from foot traffic.

Equity Statement

We are proud to be an example of how a community can come together around a shared goal of creating a beautiful public space for all to enjoy.

Central Park Gardens of Davis is nurturing and giving without discrimination or reservation.
