In 2007, Computers 4 Kids was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a commitment to bridging the digital divide that exists in our community. Many low-income students and families do not have access to a computer, which limits access to the many tools a computer can provide including productivity software for homework, the ability to easily search for jobs, utilize online learning tools, and more. These types of tasks are becoming increasingly necessary as technology continues to advance and computer skills become required for the majority of today's jobs.
We seek to change this divide in our community through providing low-income students in West Sacramento and the Los Rios Community College District with free and low-cost computers equipped with productivity software, virus protection, and ready to connect to the internet. We also provide high school and college students the opportunity to gain technical skills and work experience through participation in our internship programs.
Throughout the past 11 years, Computers 4 Kids has grown to include a variety of different programs that all work towards our mission of increasing technology access and technical support. We have a growing group of employees dedicated to these programs that allows us to serve a greater number of students and families in our community.
