BRIGHT Children International was created after the board members were made aware of the deplorable conditions orphans with special needs live in throughout the world. A family in the Sacramento area adopted a little girl with Down Syndrome from the Ukraine, where she spent her entire day in a crib, being medicated in the morning and evening to help her sleep. A stigma exists throughout the world that children born with disabilities are cursed, useless, or a disgrace to the family. These children are often abandoned by their families and are given no chance of skill building or opportunities for therapy. BRIGHT strives to change this. The board members were compelled to make a difference in other parts of the world by providing therapy, training to care givers, and materials to these children to help them succeed while waiting for their forever families.
BRIGHT provides training and education on how to incorporate therapeutic techniques into daily activities to present stimulus and encourage development. BRIGHT supplies consultative services in Music Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Recreational Therapy, and Education. BRIGHT Children International will be heading to Nicaragua in July 2026. We will serve with two different organizations Tesoros De Dios, a school for individuals with special needs at the newest location in Matagalpa and Club Cristiano La Esperanza and their inclusion program for individuals with special needs. Our team of therapists--Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Music Therapists, Social Workers, Behaviorists, and Educators will work alongside care providers, therapists, and community members to support children with special needs. BRIGHT's volunteers will spend time training providers on additional supports and techniques. Equipment and materials that are needed to best support the individuals in care will be donated. BRIGHT will provide translators to help promote clear training and support to the individuals and service providers.
