Armstead Academic Project

Founded by San Francisco 49er Arik Armstead and his wife Melinda Armstead in 2019, the Project supports students in Sacramento and the Bay Area of California.  The fundamental premise of AAP is that a zip code should not define student opportunity.

With the support of the Armstead Academic Project (AAP), students can focus on setting and achieving goals while being attentive to their physical and mental wellness. Through AAP, students are encouraged to Read, Explore, Connect, and Stay Well, along their academic continuum.  AAP provides youth with supplementary opportunities (i.e. afterschool programming, summer reading tuition, STEM programming, and college and career field trips) that allow for exploration of their interests, additional academic tools to succeed, increased self-esteem, and a sense of purpose. AAP supports teachers with resources in and out of the classroom to make learning relevant so that together, our youth can thrive. Additionally, AAP uses its platform to elevate the voices of educators in its advocacy efforts to bring more resources that support our underserved students across the state of California

Giving Activity

Mission

Provide youth with positive spaces, tools, and academic support to unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

Needs

1) Stay Hungry Summer Reading - In partnership with Teach for America - CCV, this summer AAP will serve 100-120 rising 2nd and 3rd graders in a summer reading program designed to increase literacy fundamentals and meet standardized benchmarks for their age group. Your support will help us purchase books, school supplies, snacks, and provide transportation for our students.

2) Stay Hungry Career Camp - Help us expose youth to career pathways and build their social capital. Through our Career Camp, we will partner with local businesses to host 20-30 high school students to visit their headquarters with Arik and Dr. Mindy Armstead, interact with employees in small groups to learn about different roles within the company and practice their job readiness skills. Your donation will support providing every participant with a Career Camp Workbook, transportation, t-shirts, and a health meal.

3) Stay Hungry Camp 2024 aims to engage over 500 middle and high school students in football and health programming with Arik Armstead, learn about holistic health and wellness strategies from Dr. Mindy Armstead and SF Giants, Drew Robinson, as well as tour a college campus. Your support will help ups provide a healthy lunch, t-shirts and additional "swag bags" for our youth participants.
