Eastern Music Therapy

ALEFE (pronounced A-LEPH) is a 501c3 that aims at bridging the cultural gap between the Middle-Eastern community and other communities in Sacramento. ALEFE means bringing people together in Arabic. It is the first note in the Arab music scale, and it is also the first letter of the Arabic alphabet. Like that very first note from which all melody unfolds, ALEFE exists to help start the first conversations, bringing hearts together and building bridges between cultures.
This year, ALEFE is joining the BDog for the first time to fundraise for its Eastern Music Therapy Program.
In a time of international unrest and political madness this program brings community healing based on a 1000-year old tradition where sound was used as medicine. Scroll down to learn more about this program and about ways in which you can support!
ALEFE brings hearts together by creating spaces where immigrant communities and youth can honor their cultural and linguistic heritage. Through bilingual programs, dual immersion experiences, and cultural events rooted in ancient healing traditions, we build bridges between cultures, helping Sacramento's diverse communities discover that our stories, like our melodies, flow into the same great sea of human experience.
This year, ALEFE is joining the BDog for the first time to fundraise for its Eastern Music Therapy Program.
In a time of international unrest, political madness and budget cuts affecting our disadvantaged neighbors, and drawing on a 1000-year wisdom from medieval hospitals in the Middle-East where Eastern Music modes (Maqam-s) were used as medicine, this program is intended to bring healing to the community (immigrants and residents alike).
Alongside these FREE 12-sessions of healing music, the audience will be invited to participate in guided meditation and engage in parallel traditional art activities such as Tatreez (Palestinian embroidery), guided self-care journaling or meditation in a community setting.
To support our Eastern Music Therapy Program, here are a few needs you can help us with:

At ALEFE, we believe that healing is a right, not a privilege and that we are all colors that originated from the same White/Light. The Eastern Music Healing Program is designed to serve Sacramento's Middle Eastern communities, the broader immigrant community and Sacramento residents alike. All those facing barriers to traditional mental health services due to stigma, cost, language, or lack of cultural representation are welcome to our programs. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Our sessions are led by trained practitioners, musicians, and artists who share the same diverse cultural background as our audience. All backgrounds, ages and beliefs are welcome under one roof. Everyone belongs here. Your story, your sound and your hands at work. They all matter!
