$25,000 Goal

For 40 years, the Alzheimer's Association has supported individuals and families struggling with this devastating disease. The Greater Sacramento Office is part of the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter, with 11 locations in our Chapter. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause death, affecting approximately one in nine of those over age 65 and one third of those aged 85+. In the early 1980s, the Alzheimer's Association evolved from a grassroots effort to support people on their difficult journey with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The development and growth of our programs has responded to the changing landscape of what we know about AD, improved diagnostic and care practices and the needs of local families over the disease progression. The Greater Sacramento Office serves an eight-county area: Amador, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Yolo. In 2016, the independent chapters merged under the umbrella of our national organization, so we are now one 501(c)(3), serving the entire country (and funding research globally).

Our Sacramento area programs reflect the local needs and the resources available in our community. We continue to improve programs and systems to face this growing public health challenge. As part of one of the largest chapters in the country and a strong national organization, our local office benefits from shared administrative functions that free up staff to concentrate on program delivery. Today, we remain an alliance of families and professionals dedicated to helping people with AD and their families through education, advocacy, support, and research. As catalysts for change, we provide comprehensive care and support; influence key decision-makers to ensure that policies and budgets are supportive of those coping with AD; and support the elimination of dementia through the advancement of research.

Mission

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia -- by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Needs

Sponsors are needed for our larger education events and Walk to End Alzheimer's. Sponsorship levels vary, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Program Support: Smaller donations ($1,000 - $20,000) can help fund awareness campaigns, outreach and education efforts through offsetting costs.

Health Systems Outreach: When faced with Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairments, many families turn to their healthcare providers for assistance. One of our primary goals is to expand our outreach and education to healthcare systems.

Care Staff: Family Care Specialists provide care and support services to those with dementia and their families, through outreach, education, care consultations, and service referrals. $87,500/year funds an additional full-time Family Care Specialist.

Media Campaign: Funds are needed for a media campaign to promote the 10 signs of Alzheimer's and the need for early detection ($10,000-$40,000).

We utilize volunteers in a variety of roles related to programs, fundraising, marketing, outreach, board service, etc. We also are continually seeking free spaces to hold education events or groups who would like to receive one of our educational presentations.

Equity Statement

At the Alzheimer's Association®, we believe that engaging diverse perspectives is critical to achieving health equity — meaning that all communities have a fair and just opportunity for early diagnosis and access to risk reduction and quality care. We are building an organizational culture of understanding while pursuing diversity, equity and inclusion through education and policies
