La Familia Counseling Center, Inc. has been providing services to the Sacramento community, we are celebrating our 45th year. We continue to be responsive to the communities' needs and work hard to maintain their trust by providing valuable and relevant services in a professional and caring environment. Annually, La Familia's programs reach over 10,000 community members through all of our programs; Karate (Shotokan Karate), Youth Voice, Halloween event, Posada, Christmas Adopt a Child and Summer Youth program and other special events.

La Familia offers many programs and services that are not supported or funded by grants (i.e. free summer lunch program with activities, free Zumba classes, Karate Classes & afterschool programs, Club Excel and special events for children and families). Also, many of our parents and children are in need of every day assistance, food, transportation, co-payments for doctor appointments, diapers, formula, cribs, strollers, clothes, work attire, gas and electricity assistance, gasoline for appointments, etc.

Last year donations from the "Big Day of Giving" allowed us to offer the 2017 Summer Youth Program. We served as many as 70-95 lunches daily provided by the YMCA. We offered summer activities and recreation and were able to serve over 2,864 lunches for the summer to over 300 youth. This year La Familia is once again planning to use donations from The Big Day of Giving to allow us to have another Summer Youth Program. La Familia hopes to raise enough funds so that we can offer summer programs and services at the La Familia main site and our Maple Neighborhood Center.

We had our kick off in February 2018 for our new STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) programming we are providing opportunities year round to help students with their achievement in these core skills. La Familia would like this effort to help fund an after school tutoring program.

Our top needs:
  1. Funding: Unrestricted - Summer Programming: - We served an average of 70 lunches daily provided by the YMCA, for a total of 2,864 meals over the summer. We had over 300 youth coming to La Familia for the summer activity program. The "Big Day of Giving" donation allows children to explore fun activities, science projects, healthy eating, exercise, and creative art. La Familia plans to use donations from The Big Day of Giving to continue to have another Summer Youth Program.
  2. Funding: Unrestricted - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) an afterschool and summer tutoring. La Familia would like this effort to help fund an after school tutoring program. 3. Funding: Program - Recreational and Community Activities: - La Familia offers many programs and services that are not supported or funded by grants such as: Summer Youth Program, free Zumba classes, Karate classes, Club Excel and special events for children and families. We have our annual Health & Safety Fair, Hispanic/Latino Parade, Halloween Event, Operation Gobble, and Adopt a Child Program (holiday).
  4. Other - Please Describe - Farmers Market: - On Franklin Blvd there is a lack of public transportation, we would like to have a Farmer's Market to be able to enhance and educate healthy living and healthy eating by offering access to local and fresh produce. This project will involve youth opportunities.
  5. Funding: Program - Supportive Services: - These funds could support many of our parents and children that are in need of every day assistance, food, transportation, co-payments for doctor appointments, diapers, formula, cribs, strollers, clothes, work attire, gas and electricity assistance, gasoline for appointments, etc.
"La Familia works hard to meet the needs of the most underserved community members and provides services that help inspire them to be successful. Through our supportive delivery system of care, we engage marginalized community members by demonstrating mutual respect, caring, compassion, innovation, and enthusiasm in a culturally diverse and family focused atmosphere that encourages empowerment and accountability. We have been providing multicultural counseling, outreach, and supportive services to youth and families for 45 years. La Familia has a history of successfully operating programs and has been widely recognized locally and statewide. We could not provide these valuable services without the support of our partners, community members, and donors. Every donation, large or small helps us help others. Together we can make a difference."
