$8,000 Goal

In 2007, a group of animal welfare advocates convened to identify areas where animals were under-served in Placer County.  Those initial 'founders' quickly came to the realization that animal cruelty investigations required dedicated, trained individuals to remedy unfavorable animal conditions, educate the public on the proper way of caring for animals, and when education failed, have the ability to seek justice for abused and neglected animals.  Those same founders realized that a humane society with court-certified Humane Officers would help prevent animal cruelty. HSSF was incorporated in 2008 with this concept in mind.  It is the only humane society in Northern California that can investigate, seize abused and neglected animals, and help prosecute animal cruelty.

Mission

Since 2008, HSSF has successfully worked to promote the well-being of animals. As we prepare to celebrate our sixteenth anniversary, we continue with our mission to prevent animal cruelty, abuse, and/or neglect by educating the public as to proper animal care, investigating complaints, and enforcing anti-cruelty laws of the State of California.

Needs

When animals are rescued, they are most often in need of medical attention, behavior modification, and/or rehabilitation. HSSF needs specific areas at their facility to be developed that will be suitable to accommodate a wide variety of rescued animals.

Animals with special medical needs require ongoing veterinarian care and treatments.

When a rescue operation is necessary, different modes of animal transportation, large and small veterinarian specialists, and animal handlers must be assembled to assist. This can become quite expensive, especially with the larger rescue operations.

The HSSF thrift store and bookstore operations can use extra volunteers during busy times. Net profits from these stores help animals.

Equity Statement

At HSSF, we are steadfast in our commitment to fostering an environment of equity, inclusion, and respect. We recognize that the battle against animal abuse and neglect is intertwined with broader societal challenges, including discrimination and inequality. Our dedication to protecting animals extends beyond immediate care; it encompasses a vision where every being is treated with dignity and compassion, regardless of species, background, or circumstance.

We believe that achieving our mission requires an inclusive approach that values diverse perspectives and experiences. This belief drives our efforts to ensure that our policies, practices, and community engagements are designed to promote equity and address disparities within our society. We are committed to creating a welcoming space for all individuals who share our passion for animal welfare, including volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners from all walks of life.

Understanding that systemic inequities can affect both people and animals in complex ways, we strive to:

• Cultivate an organizational culture that respects and celebrates diversity, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.

• Implement equitable hiring and volunteer recruitment practices that encourage participation from underrepresented groups.

• Develop programs and services that are accessible to diverse communities, recognizing the varied needs and challenges they face.

• Engage in partnerships and collaborations with other organizations that share our commitment to equity, aiming to amplify our collective impact.

• Continuously educate ourselves and our community on issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to animal welfare and beyond.

At HSSF, we understand that equity is a journey that requires ongoing commitment and action. We pledge to regularly review and adapt our practices to better serve our mission and the communities with whom we work. Together, we can create a more just and compassionate world for all beings.
